Crows List 2008

Postby Blue Boy » Tue Aug 14, 2007 1:19 pm

I was very adamant @ the start of the year that Mummbles had got it wrong with the list this year and he hasnt let me down @ all.

We were already going to be 2 players down - and we still had one spot left on the list not utilised. Plus I rekon he got his rookie selections wrong as well.

Now lets see if he learns for next year ???

He seriously needs to think about a list clean out and start again - top ups will not see us a win a flag now.

Some things to think about !!!

Tradeable - Biglands / Doughty / Mcgregor / Meesen / Perrie / Shirley / Van Berlo / Vince / Welsh - some of these players may not be on clubs radars but if they are not traded it is time to make way for the new.

So in a nut shell turn over 9 players + we were 1 short on our list any way = 10 new players

Play - Sellar / Tippett / Douglas / Griffen / Maric / Porplyzia - give them game time and plenty of it @ AFL level. This is a start and we probably get a couple more kids in to the side every week.
It is what it is !!!

Van Berlo and Meesen might attract attention but the rest of your 'tradeable' list would only attract flies. The Adelaide list is like a used car lot run by a dodgy salesman who has been rolling back the odometers. You guys are in for pain. The next draft is 'thinner' than last year's draft...you're a year too late with this strategy but you were near enough to 'have a crack' I suppose. You won't be able to turn over anywhere near the ten players you are talking about.

You'd get no value out of Biglands, Perrie or Welsh, no one would touch them, especially with Biglands and Welsh injuries.

Mcgregor, Doughty, Meesen and Shirley might attract minimal interest, only for a sh1t draft pick though IMO.

Keep Van Berlo and Vince I say, but if the right trade comes up for Pavlich, then Van Berlo might be needed to trade.

How about Luke Jericho??

He could offer plenty to a club who was willing to give him more of an opportunity than he has had at the Crows.

You can't teach a player to be harder at the ball and unfortunately Jericho is not hard enough, does not put his body on the line enough

Yeah thought about that - I think hes worth keepin @ the age of 23. I would like to see him get a chance in the back lines. Unlucky for him though Mummbles has his mind made up to where he thinks he should play ( very like a couple of other players ).

Delist:

Perrie
Doughty
Shirley
Jericho
Gill
Biglands

Retire:

Ricciuto

Unfortunately, very few of those will actually happen. In fact, I think Roo is the only one on that list who’ll depart. The rest though are all old, mediocre players who will take the Crows no further and all should be moved on.

Get more time into the youngsters for crying out loud.

He's virtually another Perrie in that he tries and he's good for a goal a game, but really, do we need another Perrie? What is the point? Are we keeping him on the list just to hide the fact we made a mistake?

You may be right NFC, but I reckon thats a tough assessment based on just the 3 games ... Whilst his kicking needs to improve I'm confident it can, and I think for KPP his athleticism allows him to play "small" very well also.

May not be an answer, but I certainly think he's worth giving more time to show his worth.

It will be very interesting to see how Gilly goes this week against the Bulldogs who other than Harris(who still gets bags kicked on him) have little in the way of tall defenders. With a full preseason under his belt, and injury free i think gilly has a lot more to offer next year.

Van Berlo is a must keep. With Adelaide's mid field 2 years from heartache with Edeards,McLeod,Goodwin and Roo gone, you need all the talent you can get in there.

If,IF,Hentschel returns to be even 80% the player he was you have one young key forward.Need a small forward at his feet.Bode?

Perrie is kept as your half forward KPP it player remains a problem.Pavlich is off the market, you need to find one.

Rutten is a FB for the next 10 years, and a great one at that.

So you need a CHF (still,I might add),a CHB (Bock needs to be forward,no doubt and McGregor appears to be slowing down. Not him,jus the game getting faster).

Knights,Reilly,Thompson,Johncock,Porplyzia (like him),Van Berlo,Hentschel,Hudson,
Biglands,Griffin must all be retained. Not for the first time though,REB is right.

You are in for some pain.

NFC

Tough call on Gilly and why delist Biglands? Biglands has the capability of playing in key positions as well as ruck if needed. I'd rather trade off Meesen and go with Hudson, Biglands, Maric and Griffin to carry the rucks next year.

Gilly looks like he is capable of being a dangerous forward and is worth persisting with - altho he was cover for Hentschell so who knows? I think Bock is best at CHB and can work with Rutten and Bassett down back nicely. Gill, Hentschell, Welsh and McGregor can fight it out for forward spots - depending on possible trades. Maybe McIntyre from North can be promoted.

To me, midfield is the area where work is needed in the trade and draft period. I remember Tredrea being asked once what, in his opinion, was the most important position in modern footy and he said the mid-field. No coincidence that Brisbane and now West Coast are showing the benefits of a gun midfield - in fact, that was the engine room driving us in 05 and 06. There's not the obvious next generation ready to step in and perform at a high-quality level. If Pav falls through then Meesen could be used to snag and up and coming midfielder.

I don't agree that moving on Perrie, Doughty, Shirley and co means that we are in for tough times all of a sudden - let's not be over dramatic, where did people think the Crows were at the end of 2004 .... or Port at the start of 2007?

Finally, let's not write Roo off just yet - if fit and ready he's still dangerous up forward and can be put on a veteran's list (do they still have that??) to keep room for someone else.

Keep positive fellas!

Maybe.Just a little bit.

Seriously though, the nucleus is what is about to be missing, the fringe is there, but not the guns required.

I think the veterans list which is still in operation, only is used to defer 50% of the named players salary out of the clubs over all player payments.

It’s staggering that people would rather keep Biglands over Meesen. Sure Biglands has played over 100 games and Meesen hasn’t yet made his debut, but it is such a short sighted approach. Biglands is almost 30 and realistically won’t hit his straps until 2009 and by that time he will only have a year left.

Meesen on the other hand is still only 21 and has the potential to be a quality AFL ruckman. Trading Meesen in order to keep Biglands will further set the club’s “rebuilding” phase back, and that is one thing we can’t let happen. Retaining Biglands would all but see out Meesen’s time at the AFC, and Griffin and Maric’s development will be halted.

Should be delisted, but won't be, and therefore we won’t be moving forward.

Well, if not Meesen then one of Griff or Maric

I agree he's a good prospect - I suggest his name because of his value in a trade situation v Biglands

When we have 3 good young ruckmen I think trade 1 for a midfielder

Well Maric just re-signed, Griffin appears close, whereas Meesen is just about gone.

So basically we're keeping Biglands instead of Meesen which IMO is a huge mistake.

On Biglands I would retain, however look at Playing him at CHB, he is aggressive, strong, mobil and can run, he has all the attributes to be a fantastic CHB

The players I believe that should be considered for a trade

Hudson, some may find this selection out of left field, but with Tippett, Griffen and Maric on the list, I would prefer to move forward with youth in this area with Biglands as a back-up if required

Meesen, I believe a trade here is a certainty, Meesen is a long way back in the pecking order and may need a fresh opportunity

Jericho, some may laugh but Luke has attracted some interest in the past couple of years, my mail is, especially from Hawthorn and Melbourne

Perrie, again, not rated by the SA footy public, however he does have his support in other footy circles, WC have asked the question previously, he may of been traded last year if Hentchel had not fallen over, he is well respected for his work rate

Shirley, I would like to see his role in the team go to a younger player to assist the players development

Massie, again, I would like to see this HB role go to a youunger player, such as McIntyre, Pfieffer or Hinge

Mattner, I do believe Marty has a huge upside, however to gain something you have to give up something, would I like to see Marty remain at the club, the answer is yes, is he replaceable and tradeable for the right deal, the answer again is yes

Players under the threat of the De-List axe

Doughty, it's time the crows moved forward, good season in 2006, however would not be part of my future plans

Shirley , my views, if not traded must be de-listed

Hinge I personally would like to see him retained, however , he has failed to put the selectors under too much pressure

Bode and Roo, their needs to be an honest assessment on both these players, the crows can no longer carry long term injured players on their list
