Was surprised to see in the Crows v Power game that Torney managed two goals, not bad for playing at half back!
Considering the Crows seem to have problems in the area of goal kicking, maybe Neil Craig should look into playing him in the forward lines occassioanaly to see what happens - Could be another Shane Ellen in the making!

Torney is a very good footballer, great mark, tough, and able to get out of a tight situation, its a pity it took so long for the crows to get hold of him...makes the loss of Kane johnson seem irrelevant.

I recognise the Fact that Torney certainly does not lack courage, however he certainly has not cover the loss of Kane Johnson, Kane was a key part of our premiership success, his high possession count and clean disposal through the midfield should not be under estimated
Torney is a HB Flanker, a very good one, but a HB flanker

I'd be prepared to give him a shot as a stay put player at centre. He is a long kick, reasonable mark, and good at getting the hard ball and slipping it out, but I suspect he could not sustain the pace as an on-baller expected to run all over the ground.

all respect to Torney, however the club is going backwards if we start looking at Torney to play midfield

Agreed! Longer term there is a need to develop young fast fit players who can get to the ball first, but none of the youngsters tried so far look like the goods. Douglas has potential, Porplyzia looks like a potential forward, but not really a mid-fielder, Knights is developing fairly well.

Porplyzia could make a great midfielder with the right fitness levels in my lay-man opinion
Very clean hands and a great overhead mark for his size
Made a real difference last night
Back to Torney ... when the Crows are playing well our defenders like Torney are usually drifting down to kick some goals

Yes, that has always been the issue.

Agreed, he's struggled to string games together which is a worry. If he can, watch out. His hands are just so clean; one grabs everything.

The couple of games I saw him play with Westies this year he stood out. He doesn't panic, his vision & decision making is very good. IMO I think he would be good in the midfield.

Like on Saturday night at half time when Torney had 2 and McLeod 1 out of the Crows total of 3 goals...
We have attacking backmen and defensive forwards. It's a strange old game!

Kane Johnson vs Torney many years ago - you would have taken a young Johnson as he was a key player in the Crows premierships.
However give me Torney any day nowadays. Kane Johnson is a yesterday player - hasn't played well for a number of years - admittedly the Tigers are shi# but he can't handball under pressure (not good for an AFL player) and has got away with being an ex-premiership player. Just watch him in tight and he cannot give with his left which is where he always gets found out.
He is one of the senior players at Tigerland who can't get a kick - very disappointing.

The problem Kane has is that at Richmond he is one their main on ballers as such he gets a quality on-baller (top 2 or 3) each week to match up against.
When he was with us he invariably got the 4th or fifth best on baller after opposition clubs had matched up on Ruccitio, Goodwin, Edwards and McLoed, he could cut that player to shreds....
the same reason why Torney can play well in spurts on the ball or pushing forward he gets picked up by a lesser player
For mine I'd have Johnston over Torney and Thompson....
