Dumb Port/Choko Dumb!

Port rushed through 8 points.
Port lost by 8 points.
Its not rocket science.

From someone who doesn't barrack for the Crows or Port it'd be a damn shame if Port make the finals and the Crows dont as Port play complete crap football to watch.
There was only one team playing football tonight and on behalf of all football fans I was barracking for them, well done Crows.

Port also conceeded 8 rush behinds, many of these were under very little pressure, this clearly highlights port desire to attack sides on the re-bound, rather than trying to win contested footy

I agree with Wedgie. Tonight Port were woeful. In a low scoring game, points take on a much greater meaning and the amount they "rushed" through tonight was the difference!

Not sure about bad to watch though in general. The last few weeks they've been as exciting as anyone. Crows just shut them down completely tonight.

Agreed, I really enjoyed their game against Geelong when they let 36 scoring shots in, they were great to watch that week, I had a ball!

Werent watching the game last night with the Doggies "rushed" (dont know if I should call Adam Cooney kick a point from an aborted kick in a "rushed" point) the Dogs conceeded six points and drew

If Port were woeful then the Crows Must have been just as Bad as they only won by 8 points and as you stated above those 8 points were freebies. By the way, when was the last team to win the premiership by not dropping a home and away game? too much is made of Crows/power matches, they are just another 4 points like any other.
Also, arnt the 2 Adelaide AFL Clubs the opposite positions on the premiership table as to where everyone thought they would be at the start of the season????? In 4 weeks time the Power will be preparing for Finals action whilst the Cows can please themselves (Probably mad monday)

Its all irrelevent as Port will do nothing if they get there, at least if the Crows get there they might do something.
And that's from a non biased point of view as Im a Geelong man.
Crows gave us a decent run here where Port just lied over like lap dogs to us.
Personally for our sake I hope Port end up 2nd and the Crows dont make the finals.
Make our job that much easier.

Port is exceeding expectations this season. I dont expect us to go that far into September but the experience in the finals will be a huge learning experience for our young players. Port's done the hard yards with delisting players already (ie rebuilding), whereas the Crows are still playing to win a flag, and as such have quite a lot of experienced players still on their list.

The Crows may scrape into the finals but i dont think will cause any problems for Geelong or West Coast. Both SA clubs are realistically a few years off winning this year's flag.

If Port doesn't make the GF (as i said its unlikely they will make it), i'll certainly be barracking for the Cats, like a hell of a lot of supporters from other clubs. Lets hope they dont disappoint like they have for so many years now.

Ian

Read my entire post

I was linking the ruch behinds to their desire to hit the crows on the rebound rather than trying to win the contested ball

My view, Port is similar to the WB, they have loaded their team with players who a quick, great in space and are very attacking

However, we all know, this brand of footy is good enough to belt poor opposition but come finals, where their is less space, more 1 + 1 contest, it is the strength of your defensive action that can drive you to victory, in my view, Port is seriously lacking in this key area

Credit where credit is due Wedgie,Port did play shite football last night, only because that is the way Adelaide like to play (low scoring),its fair to say they had the run of the play for the last 3/4 and should have won by more.If Port had managed to get on top of the mid-mielf flood the Crows put on,things would have been different. For 4 years now we have struggled against Craigs system of clogging the wings when we have the ball in defence.Losing Brogan before the game, even a wet night game gave us fewer options, both in the middle and up forward.

To suggest it was 'dumb' and Port played crap is more a reflection on the way Adelaide dictated terms, more than what Choko did or how many rushed behinds there were.

The fact Adelaide won as underdogs in a Showdown goes with the script, because Showdowns normally go against the script.

Is it just me or are Port very much in the Hawthorn mould? If allowed to play their game they can create havoc but can get closed down by the more physical sides? The match in Tassie will be a beauty I reckon and both clubs deserve credit for how they've improved this year.

I don't know about Port playing crap football either. They might have last night for reasons as stated by the Boonmiester but when allowed space I reckon Port are a great team to watch.

meh. You dont know whats up field. Some looked pretty average but theres no point booting the ball up field if its gonna land in a pack of Crows players, or go the boundary and get called for deliberate.

We should have lost by more. Crows outplayed us for the last three quarters.

I would argue that the first qtr was an even contest

Ebert's first goal was a disgraceful decision, it was wet Mattner slid to gather the footy, was pounced upon immediately, holding the ball was paid....

On a wet evening this would of happpend more than 50 times, and they pay about 4 holding the ball's all night

Then, their was Burton's mark, he would need to of had 5 foot long arms for it to be a push in the back, once again cost a goal

The scoreboard flattered the Power at qtr time

If Adeliade kicked straight, the game would have been over by early in the 3rd qtr.

If the Coaching panel at port had any idea that the Crows would play a low scoring game surely they would have a plan for it? can they only coach on a dry day? All week Mr Willams was saying that the crows will bottle the game up and keep it low scoring and that the power will go flat out and take it up tto them. From what i saw in the second quater the power were more comfortable holding the ball up and protecting a 8 point lead!. Fair dinkum face it they are front runners when the track suits them. No Body apart from Rodan was prepeared to put his body on the line. And now Mr willams is a friggin weather forecaster!
“Their [Adelaide’s] style works really effectively in the rain. We had to battle at it and – as they say – in September it’s usually dry.”

All week Chocko says he is going to attack and take it up to the Crows .... even mumbled that all the coaches have worked the Crows out (except him clearly) ... and then with 5 minutes to go in the third quarter he sends the runners out, when they have a 2 goal lead, to tell the players to slow it down and waste the last 5 minutes. Burgoyne and Cornes waving their arms around.... And it wasn't just then either ....

A tactic Chocko has admitted his team isn't experienced enough to pull off, yet when he is under the pump he panics and pulls it out again. It's not the team's natural game and they aren't good at it but hey, lets do it at the crucial stage of a crucial game

What does he think is going to happen in the finals? Teams just going to lay down and let his team be attacking all game?
In between signatures .....
