I am always on the crows case about drafting but in this case I was suprised @ the power taking Westhoff any way. It turns out that the lad fits in @ that level real well though.

I think the Crows were always going to have a go @ drafting Gill after Hentschell was ruled out for the year. Sellar is there development player - but I would like to see him playing now as well.

There are plenty of draft stories like that

In hindsight tho have to agree Port look like they did better

But who knows with Gill??? He showed something on the weekend I thought .... once they work on his kicking

I wasn't surprised at all that Westhoff was taken, I've been a massice wrap for him for a few years now ... Hard to point the bone at the Crows though when 14 other teams also passed him up.

Great drafting yet again by the Powers (x2) that be though ...

Your point about 14 other teams is correct CP, but the crows chose Gill ahead of Westhoff - which I think was the original point.

COmparing the 2 players, both have an uncanny knack for finding the ball and strong hands. After that, one is very young, the other not so. One has good kicking skills, the other not so. I reckon the crows did err in this case (not saying Gill wasn't worthy of a shot at AFL).

I sometimes wonder if the Crows get caught up in hype about local players?

I believe that if those picks had been reversed and Port had pick 64 then they would have chosen Gill as well. Im pretty sure Gill trained with us pre-draft and was high on our radar.

Westhoff would have been drafted either by the Crows, by Port in the pre season or by someone in the rookie draft. I think he was always going to go at some point.

Gill has more noticeable faults than Westhoff but not many people would have thought that Westhoff would show so much flair and footy nous and make his lack of muscle a complete non issue. One of the smartest tall forwards ive seen. Gill has the X factor where he could win a match in 5 minutes.

Gill did show a bit on the weekend, but Westhoff has shown a fair bit more.

Agreed

If Westoff was on the crows list, he would probably still be playing for Centrals.

Unfair to compare them as Gill was recruited as a bakcup if key forwards got injured where Westhoff was recruited as a long term project. Westhoff has come on quicker than expected and except for his kicking after his first game you'd have to say Gill looks like playing his spot as a replacement forward beautifully too.
Looking at last year's entire draft and I can honestly say Ive never heard of 95% of them so if you compre selection 61 to any amount before him and you'd say the Crows have done well.
A fair comparison would be comparing the top 10 draft picks and working out how Geelong faired the best with Selwood.

Westhoff overall looks better, but we have only seen Gill play once at AFL level. If he plays the next couple of weeks and gets his kicking right, that could tell whos better.

Gill - Ideal HF, has height, speed and agility, just needs to clean up his kicking

Sellar, the crows don't have a good record with their first round picks, this I had no expectations at AFL level, however I expected his form to be much better at SANFL level, next year, he needs to put pressure on the selectors, this needs to start with a massive pre-season

sorry....your usual ill informed posts NFC...if he is struggling with OP why is he playing at all?...he has been given every opportunity at league level but didnt cut it, I thought he might be our wildcard up forward late this season and still might be

Good question. He was really struggling earlier in the year and when the AFC said he had groin soreness it was pretty much common knowledge he had OP. So yes he is still not 100% and as everyone knows OP can linger on for some time.

He’s kicked 11.4 in 7 league games, and not to mention he’s spent a lot of time rucking and on the bench. There’s no doubt he’s been disappointing this season but there are numerous reasons why.
