Who do we think will be the new coaches for 2008?

The only one I feel is penciled in is Mark Harvey for Freo.

If Sheeds gets the arse, maybe Neale Daniher to Essendon, although Gary O'Donnell would be in front of him IMO after his experience in Brisbanes system.

Melbourne is a funny one, maybe John Longmire? I don't feel they will risk it on Michael Voss, Carlton however might again for his experience in Brisbanes 3 flags.

Thoughts? Any other candidates?

How could any club seriously consider having Voss as their coach? If they pick someone just because of their name and not due to their coaching ability, the club is a joke.

I'm not so sure - all the coaches around today seem to have come out of the same training system with the similar basic styles and attitudes. Perhaps it is time for a radical change to someone who has not gone through the system and may not have yet imbibed the standard ways of thinking about how the game should be played.

Im starting to think you have to be a younger type of coach to understand the Generation Y kids coming thru and how they like to be coached and developed....when recruiting graduates at my work we are given a session on how to treat the Gen Y group and how they want/lik to be treated, canted be underestimated that the era that Sheed's, Daniher and Pagan came from and that style does not sit well with youngsters these days

I'd think Vossy would be a good fit for the CFC, although Ratts might be given a crack. Ratts has only been out of the game for a 5 years, had year at Melbourne, then coached Norwood for a couple of years and now at CFC...
Ratts very respected by ALL at CFC, so would be MY preferred choice.

Good point Dutchy. Players today respond differently than they did 20 years ago. Whenever Carlton players were interviewed you could tell there seemed to be a huge generation gap between them and Pagan.

It's a big issue in the business world - managing Gen Y people - would be no different coaching them.

Having said that - Malthouse and Matthews still going reasonably strong.

Its gonna be pretty hard to see Voss gettin agig @ this stage !!!

I agree with the Sheedy to Richmond prediction. IMO Sheeds wants to keep on coaching and I reckon he'll jump at the chance to prove his doubters wrong yet again with a huge challenge at his old club. I reckon Wallace is kicking into the breeze to hold his job. They've gone backwards under his reign

Carlton - Voss
Essendon - Harvey
Freo - Sumich
Melbourne - Connolly
Richmond - Sheedy

If I was a supporter of my club who apponted Voss as a coach, I would be seriously disgruntled. Sure he may be good tactically, but that is only one extremely small part of the job. Even just something like delegation of roles to the assistant coaches would be virtually impossible to do in the most efficient manner possible having had no experience in coaching. Why does he have to move into senior coaching next year? He should go to a club as an assistant where he can test out his own ideas and theories on the game, and gain essential experience in the man management required before taking on a senior role full time. Everyone thinks just because he is Michael Voss that he will be come in and be a good coach. He may be a dud.

It is surprising the number of vacancies this early in the season, I can see why Terry Wallace came out and made his statement earlier in the year about the club needing another three years to become successfull. Had he not have said that I think it would be likely that people would be calling for his head at the present moment too.

Despite what happens at the Crows this year I cant see Neil Craig being terminated. The only better coach that I could see for the Crows than Craig would be Leigh Matthews and I doubt that he would be interested in making the move to Adelaide over Melbourne, yet stranger things have happened I suppose!

It's the 2 years remaining on his contract that would have to be paid out that will be the only thing to save him surely?

I would like to see Neale Daniher coaching Essendon next year he did a pretty good job with Melbourne over ten years not only with the list he had during that time but with what I reckon he had to deal with off the field too
