Kevin Sheedy rumour

Postby Mr66 » Thu Jul 19, 2007 9:20 pm

I heard today that if Essendon gives Sheeds the flick @ the end of the year,
Crazy John's owner John Ilhan will payout Terry Wallace's contract at Richmond
and the Back-Pocket-Plumber will return to Tigerland.
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

Carolyn Wilson has been hinting at that for a while too - according to her there is a push to get Sheeds back to the Richmond.

Sheeds might see it as a new challenge for the later stages of his coaching career?

I have said before that I think Wallace could be one of the most over-rated coaches in history and how he got a 5 year deal (correct me if I am wrong anyone) is beyond me - very lucky guy / potentially not very smart move by Richmond at the time.

John Ilhan comes on board next year I think and he is one of the wealthiest men in the country - a real success story who started out hand delivering handsets to customers of his started-from-scratch new mobile phone store some 10 or so years ago.

About every time Sheedy is out of contract as a ruse to get Essendon to sign him up....

Rohan Conelley in todays Age wrote that it is a done deal - that he wont be re-appointed. The Essendon Board is meeting next Tuesday to determine how they will manage it....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Yeah its a common rumour, but i hadn't heard the bit about someone paying Wallace's contract though. If thats the case, then Wallace could be in trouble.

Essendon would be mad not to sign him up ASAP IMHO.

Its funny how it appears Sheedy wont be reappointed, even though someone high up at the Bombers (not sure who the guy is, might be Peter Jackson) continually says that they'd find it hard to find anyone better than Sheedy. I know people high up in footy clubs cant be trusted, but the guy didn't have to say something like that, its almost giving a strong opinion rather than just giving the media an answer just for the sake of it. Presumably this guy is outvoted by other Essendon people.

Maybe this is why Harvey doesn't want to mess up his resume by coaching Freo for the last 7 games?

Who'd be next in line for Sheeds at Essendon BTW?

Maybe Gary O'Donnell would be a chance. Hes been an assistant (including with Brisbane) for a few years now.

Also, they could go for someone like Chris Bond who could fit the Essendon mould.

Sheeds has 4 premierships under his belt which is a great record

But it is spread over 26 seasons and he's only had 2 in 22 years since 1985 .....

yeah, i think he is a super coach and the best in the AFL. He hasn't had the best lists, but he can usually manage something out of the ordinary....

A lot of clubs would give anything to have had 2 premierships in the last 22 years.
