Connolly to quit today - report

July 18, 2007 Chris Connolly is reportedly set to quit as coach of AFL club Fremantle today.

Connolly is due to front a media conference at 10am local time where he is likely to step aside as Dockers coach after 129 games in charge.

Radio 6PR has reported that current Dockers assistant Mark Harvey will take over as caretaker head coach for the remainder of the AFL season.

The Dockers is currently in 13th place on the ladder with a 6-9 win-loss record and would need to win at least six of its remaining seven matches to secure an unlikely finals berth.

Fremantle plays Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Saturday.

I think he is jumping so he can then actively promote himself for the Melbourne and possibly other jobs, if he is coach of Freo for the rest of the year he has the danger of missing the boat on other jobs

Melbourne would be better off with a rookie coach instead of one with baggage like Connolly.
Would be very surprised if they pick him.

Good video on Fox Sport website about Connolly.
Looks relieved that the tension has been released and promised to answer everything honestly.
Should be worth buying the paper tomorrow to see what he has to say.

I think Harvey is stepping up?

Good chance to test his mettle for the last 7 rounds

Roos got in at Sydney that way ahead of Plough and look at them now!

it goes to show where freo are at. They have one of the best lists in the AFL and are struggling being the coach of freo seems like being coach of st. Kilda both clubs need to improve on the field to make the finals.

I think Harvey is over-rated and as a coach is an absolute joke

Harvey has been an assitant for 11 years now, he has pulled out of two jobs and then their was that debarcle when he said that the Hawks never tried to contact him

NOW

Their is an opportunity to take over a reasonably strong list and for him to show what he is made of and he needs to consider the decision

What is their to consider, I read today that he may be worried about the tough run home and a poor win / loss ratio in the last 7 games

Memo to Harv's, this is what the job is about, if you get an opportunity, it is on the back of a clubs failure, you have to build the team and the success

I thought he moved to Freo to become a senior coach, what is he waiting for, it seems he does not want to take any risks, is he waiting for someone to hand him over a quality list like west coast

Even if he accepts the job for the rest of 2007, I believe he failed to make a statement

He should of accepted the role immediately, this would of given a clear message, "I am here and I am ready"

why do people keep rating this bloke

Sydney Dog

I agree with your comments re Harvey. I wasn't actually trying to pump him at all. I just read somewhere that he was likely to take on the care-taker role and thought it would be a chance for him to show what he can do.

So I was surprised later to read that he was hesitating and that the Dockers might have to go to a Plan B like Robert Shaw  Surely he has to take it on - unless he thinks there is a stigma associated with being a 'care-taker' coach. Dunno.
