Top eight prediction: Power to make the eight...Bullies OUT?

Postby Rik E Boy » Wed Jul 18, 2007 10:40 am

Just had a quick squiz at the ladder predictor on allthestats. While I rate the Bullies as a better side than the Power at this stage in their development the Power look like they might sneak in to the top eight at the Bulldogs' expense.

The Power get to play Richmond, Carlton, Melbourne and Fremantle in the run home and in my opinion they will win all of those matches. The other three games are against Geelong, Adelaide and Hawthorn. I don't reckon they will beat the Hawks or the Cats away but the Showdown looks a classic 50/50 or eight point game.

The Bulldogs have to play Geelong, West Coast, St Kilda (a team they have a terrible record against), Kangaroos, Adelaide and Hawthorn with the only 'soft' match being against the Demons who I can see really falling away towards the end of this year.

Sydney is the team outside of the eight who I believe can take the Bullies place. After a toughie in Perth against West Coast, Sydney then play against Richmond, Melbourne, Brisbane, St Kilda, Collingwood and Hawthorn. I reckon they can win as many of five of their last seven which puts them in the eight but not the four. They'll still be scary in September as will West Coast who should get a few back.

My final top eight looked like this

1 Geelong
2 Collingwood
3 Kangaroos
4 Hawthorn
5 West Coast
6 Sydney
7 Adelaide
8 Port Adel

Of course it only takes a couple of funky results to throw all of your considered predictions out the window. Enjoy!

Not nervous about the Swans, I reckon we match up well against them. I am a lot more worried about the Roos, who we don't do so well against. Our record against the Hawks is dire also but the next game won't be played in Tassie. We went down to the Hawks by four points with zero goals to NAblett, Hawkins and Mooney. We'll trounce em next time IMO.

So if it finishes the way I have got it - you should beat Sydney and be straight in to a Prelim Final !!!

Lets say Hawks to beat Collingwood / West Coast to beat Adelaide / Kangaroos to beat Port

So I think it would be Sydney v Kangaroos / West Coast v Collingwood - with both games being in Melbourne

But who would geelong play in the Prelim ???

I think it would be the winner from West Coast v Collingwood if I have got the swap over correct !!!
It is what it is !!!

Yep, that is who we would play if games went that way Blue Boy. Sorry pafc, the Roos would tear you a new one if you played them in the finals. These guys have won 10 out of their last 12. That game two years ago doesn't mean squat. Your soft draw will get you in...and also out in the first week.

Sure, their 10 out of 12 looks good now, but by finals time it will mean nothing also. Wo do have a bit of a softish draw, but we are also playing damn good footy, so I think your analysis of the Roos tearing us a new one is off the mark.

Roos won 10 of the last 12 and Port have won 3 of the last 8 (damn good footy?), and the game would be in Melbourne at the TD where your record is poor also...

Feel free Matteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. We played like dogs on a ground we had never seen before with a howling wind (not great when you've selected three talls) and we had Steven King gift Crawford a goal when we had snuck ahead late in the game and had our tails up.

Next time we play it will be springtime at the G and as Hawthorn showed against Adelaide and Sydney earlier this year, you don't like the contested footy against the bigger bodies.

Keep it, but you won't be using it.

I don't think so. Port are the biggest frontrunners in the competition and the Roos are the hardest runners in the competition. They'll belt you and you know it.
