Tipping Comps - Leaders? Prizemoney?

Just curious to see how big or small some tipping comps are and the progress of them.
At work, I share the lead with one of the WACA groundstaff on 74 and another groundstaffer is third on 71 (they should do more work and let me win!

)
Winner gets about $600, Second gets about $300, Third gets about $200, Last gets $50 and there is a $20 per week prize for the "nearest the pin" to 8 (margins determining tie-breaks).
Our top five tipsters are currently ahead of 99% of the leading tipsters in the Herald Sun, the Addy, the West and the Australian.

I'm only in the AFL.com.au NAB tipping comp - I have 73 currently which ranks me 2,854 out of 163,189 tippers
Not as great as it sounds as a lot of those tippers have prob given up by now
I find not being in any comps with mates, at work, etc makes it easier for me to tip on instinct

My secret is simple:
1. Do your tips on a Monday and stick to them. The first thoughts are usually the best.
2. Pick SA sides in SA
3. Pick WA sides in WA (sometimes you can pick against the Dockers safely, though),
4. Pick Geelong in Geelong
5. Never pick Carlton, Melbourne, St. Kilda or Richmond unless you have to.

That's my strategy too in recent years - pick straight up, use the first thought and then forget about it. I found in the past I agonised over ins and outs too much and talked myself into tips during the week. I have come to the conclusion that 1-2 players out of a 22 man team makes not much difference from week to week. More important is the team's form and trying to judge where they are at verses the others overall, which is never easy.
Plus - I never try to pick upsets. I find that's a recipe for disaster and once you start, and then inevitably fall behind, you do it more to try to catch up and then you're officially stuffed.

While I don't really do much betting, I am in a couple of tipping competitions. The one at work, I've never done this good in any part of the season - 75 so far, and I'm 7 ahead of 2nd place.
I have gone so far: 4,4,5,6,8,5,5,7,5,3,3,6,7,7. Don't know how long I can keep that up though.

75
And I thought you hated the AFL

Good work that would have you top or close to it in most tipping comps

I used to watch three or four games in full on the weekends around 4-7 years ago, as well as going to Eagles matches.

It's interesting how every year the 'experts' in the Advertiser (except D. Lewis) tip so very very poorly

The leader in our workplace tipping comp was born and grew up, and did his degree, in Beijing! He has lived in Melbourne only about 5 years and is now a Kangaroos supporter.
