Rex Hunt's use-by date?

It seems that Rex Hunt is finally getting up people's noses after some 15 years on air.

3AW and 6PR's ratings have fallen - in the case of 6PR, they fell from 13 to 6 in one ratings survey and there is now bright and clear daylight between 6WF (ABC) and 6PR.

In Melbourne, they are third out of four radio stations (add the fact that the fourth - SEN - are half a season into its AFL career) and MMM and 3LO (ABC) have skipped clear.

What is the story in Adelaide with the ratings?

Craig Hutchinson was sacked and Hunt was told to "lift his game" if he still wanted a job at Southern Cross Broadcasting.

Can you stand Rex? Is he finally on the slide? Can you understand one of his match calls? Where is the ball? When will he drift off the airwaves?

I for one wouldnt miss him on the air waves. I dont know who he is talking about half the time let alone where the "aggot" is. I admit he' got flair and is colourful- however Im more of an old style commentary man (ie Tim lane)........calling the game how it is without as much fanfare.

I like rexy's fishing shows though- i loved "bushy" what a champ!!

Rex Hunt is a dud. If you aren't a regular listener you don't understand what he's on about and regular listeners are becoming bored. He is another one of those media people who believes that he is bigger than the game itself. Like Sam Newman, his 'use-by date' was a decade ago.

Give me Rexy Hunts' Calls of the Footy anyday over the pathetic, whinging, Over analysing crap that comes out of KG and Cornseys' mouths.

REX did go over board, the ratings dropped, people sacked and he was told to pull his head in and I think his calls over the past few weeks have been vintage Rex!!!!

at least rex brings some excitement to the game, even if there isnt any!

His use by date as a footy caller was sometime in the 80's. Has been a dud since then. 3AW have needed a new broom for about 15 years at least.

Very much a matter of personal opinion when it comes to rating commentators.

I know many think Clinton Grybas is a good caller,I dont. Some say Dwayne Russell is good,I agree.

So when it comes to Rex,or Roy and HG,I like Rex.

Rex is simple,at times too 1970's to believe but he's more gracious and 'listenable' than he gets credit for.Im ok with Rex on the radio. The old dont like it,dont listen to it.

the best footy caller that i have heard is Brenton Yates on MMM.

he calls the action as it happens and doesnt try to predict what will happen as many of the others do.

One of the fundamentals - radio or TV - is to get the names right. When Rex Hunt calls the game, you haven't got a clue what is going on. Brian Taylor is by far and away the best caller on radio. He is colourful but accurate.

Having said that, I listened to the Bulldogs v Port game on 774 (ABC) yesterday and Gerard Whateley is developing nicely as a caller. LOL at a special comment from former Carlton champ Mark MacLure - "This is Port Adelaide at their best - chipping short and wide".

I must agree.

When I was in Melbourne, I used to listen to MMM because I believed that there was no alternative - it was both entertaining and informative. Having moved to Perth, the alternative is ABC or 6PR (Rex) and I have to say that the ABC have an excellent call team for most games which enhances the enjoyment of the game and they are also entertaining as well as informative.

I was "forced" to listen to 6PR late last year for a game in Melbourne and I had no idea WTF was going on at Rex's game ... just like the last time I heard him 11 earlier.

For me, Rex's use by date was 5 mins after i first heard him. I just cant listen to the man at all.
He's such a tool.

BT & Dwayne Russel seem to be the best at the moment .
