I probably should have put this in the general discussion but I thought it is best in here given the number of Crows and Power power supporters that drive over to Melbourne for footy.

A gentle warning but at the minute on the western highway (especially my stretch between the border and Horsham we have cop cars everywhere monitoring speed. Marked cars, unmarked cars and stationary speed cameras. One marked car basically does nothing but roam the highway between Horsham and the border (~ 4 hour round trip once you write a couple of tickets) 2-3 times a day. I've even seen the marked highway car roaming the highway at 10:00 pm at night.

So if you are driving over here and you don't want a ticket I advise to stick to the speed limit (certainly don't go over 105 km) as they are on a mission here ATM to curb the road toll.

Bracksy needs his revenue to hide the fact that the Mexican government are overspending . I feel sorry for the pressure on the cops to raise money for the government's coffers rather than serve the community.

Having to write tickets for doing 104 in a 100 zone and the same stretch of road going from 110km/h to 100km/h only because a state border crosses it ... a bit hard to defend, really. What's good for one is good for the other.

Went on a trip a few weeks ago, and the driver at the time, got done doing 106 in a 100 zone and copped a fine!!! I will make sure he reads this, just to make him think about it again!! SO hard on such a long trip to keep under the limit.

I was training at Horsham United going back 10 years ago, when there was no less than half a dozen cops playing in the side, and remember being waved on by breatho's many a time cos they knew my car... unfortunately I'm not that lucky nowadays, but because I do the drive a fair bit I tend to know where they sit and roam.

The thing with the Vic cars is that their radar sits on the side of the car on the roof rack, and can catch your speed up to 2km away or something ridiculous like that, so if you have a lapse in concentration and find yourself doing 110, it may even be too late, and there is nothing scarier than a cop car chucking a U'ey at will and speeding down the highway cos' you think they've nabbed you!

I've never seen one before Lillimur, although I do know theyre prolific between Kaniva and Dimmy, moreso between Kaniva and Nhill, maybe because it's a straighter stretch of road.sometimes they'll catch you on the way home on the other side of the bridge leaving Kaniva.

They also tend to sit in the bushes near Dimmy just before you go over the bridge (Heading to Horsham)

On the other side of Horsham, watch out mainly between Horsham and Dadswell Bridge and they have speed cameras on the side of the road at the Koala a fair bit so make sure you're doing 80!!! Then just after Stawell is a lookout on the left hand side and a cop car likes to sit in the driveway of it.. I could go on and on and on...

Bugger 105 TM, if you have SA Plates, dont even bother sitting on more than 100, in fear that your speedo is out, at least you can get comfort out of the fact that once you get to the border, you can almost get away with 130 because there are no cop cars in sight... (did i just say that??)

I got picked up by the fuzz over here in Viccy, The cop claimed that a car similar to mine got nicked in Bordertown the they were just checking all falcons. I thought to myself pigs arse you see an old 84 ford P plater lets annoy him. He walked around my car checking it out before asking for my license and rego.

Correct FC....when we go to Melb for the footy we leave at 4-00am and go 130+ all the way to the border, never any cops on thi side of the border esp that time of the morning...thanks for the warning Tassie, might be doing the drive ina couple of weeks

The other thing to watch out for is if you go via Bendigo you go on an automated toll road, the signs say that you can call a number and pay by credit card up to 24 hours later, yet just try getting through to them.......

Yes that's true - I got pinged doing 64 in a 60 zone recently.

I'd avoid the toll roads by turning off before that section starts - there are usually "last warning" signs, but consult your map before you approach Melbourne. [Look at the VicRoads website too.] The system is a total pain unless you are a regular user with an e-tag.

In the first four weeks after the Bracks-wards Governement introduced the law, I was caught doing 64 in a 60, 75 in a 70 and 54 in a 50. I wasn't the only person in my friendship group to attract multiple infringements in such a short timeframe. The points and dollars were far too excessive for the "crimes".

As it was pointed out by a Sth Aussie at the time, in any other state I would not have been penalised a cent or a point.
