Idea for Foxtel

If Foxtel were clever enough, they would offer a Foxtel Sport package with Fox Sports 1,2 and 3, plus ESPN and Fox Sports News for $20/month.

This would make Foxtel far more attractive and make a few dollars for them. Consider it as 1.2 times the cost of watching your AFL side play away in a month (especially good for non-Victorian clubs). Then add all the other sports as well... it's worth the money looking at it that way! 8)

Better whisper it in the ear of a Foxtel worker!

It's probably the only way that Channel 7 will lift its game!

Top idea benchwarmer but a better idea for foxtel is to let you pick your channel pick what you want to watch.

Not a bad idea but make it a pre-paid system.

The way Foxtel structure the different packages on top of the base-line stuff makes it hard to keep the overrall cost down to what the TV ads make it seem .... that's what made me leave it alone when I last got a quote.

Basically, like the Telcos, they want o get at least $50/month out of each customer to make it profitable enough, that's why the basic package is there to pad it out and make it look like you are getting enough for your dough.

"Look, the plate's full! OK it's full of stuff you'll never eat, but look how full it is!"

My thought is that if they had 25,000 households nationwide on a $20/month package (a realistic number ... especially when you take into account NSW & Qld, who reckon they never see AFL on free to air), then Foxtel gains revenue of $500,000 per month. That's not something to dismiss off-hand.

I'd dare say guys that Austar/Foxtel is set up like that because trained ar$eholes who know their figures and accounts have worked out the best way to get the most out of their customer.
Nothing is meant to be fair.
I pay $60 a month and have Fox Sports 1,2,3 ESPN and News, plus MAX, V1, V2, MTV, Fox 8 1 and 2, Comedy 1 and 2. Thats all i want but i also pay for the regular bull$hit, like cartoons, arena, classics, shopping, fashion i never want but have to buy the right packages to obtain my wanted channels.
It's smart.
I'm a sucker.
And there's heaps of us.

If Austar/Foxtel offered a "sports channels only" package, I would have subscribed years ago. I also know of many others who say the same thing, and others who have cancelled their subscription because they were sick of paying for the other crap along with their sport.

Wake up Telstra!

Would be surprised if Foxtel would run with a package like, purely for fear of the number of existing subscribers that could potentially look to downgrade their existing packages.

That's the clincher CP.
You're 100% right and there is no other way around it.

But they think 2 1/2 times that would be better and that they'll get it if they have the footy wrapped up so it is the only way to see it on TV.
