THE AFL Commission has rejected a proposal from the Ten Network to stage the 2007 grand final as a twilight game.

Ten approached the league last month pitching its plan to have the season decider start at 5pm (AEST) so the broadcaster could gain more viewers.

The broadcaster's plan would have had the build-up coverage begin at midday and post-game coverage finish by 11pm.

AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou has stated he is a traditionalist, leaning towards keeping the showpiece game of the season as a day clash, which starts at 2.30pm (AEST).

The commission backed up Demetriou's preference by ruling to leave this year's grand final a day game.

Twilight grand final ... what do we think? Good call by the AFL?

GF day coverage from noon - 11pm is a bit much for mine.

Reckon it's inevitable tho ...... one day
In between signatures .....

My educated guess is that, I don't think it'll happen this TV rights deal but can see the AFL saying to whoever is bidding for the rights next time if you want a night GF you'll have to pay extra...One way of making sure the cost of the rights keeps heading North...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
