Next Dockers coach?

Ric Hart has left us in no doubt that the Dockers will be looking for a new coach next year because Freo will definitely not make the 'Eight in 2007.
Who will lead in the club in 2008?
I love the quote from Craig Hutchison on TFS last night ...
"The frontrunner will be Peter Sumich or else Mark Harvey - a West Australian will definitely get the job"Harvey - West Aussie?
I reckon Hutchy's is right about a two-horse race - my tip is Sumich over Harvey, with Guy McKenna as a smokie.

I think Harvey will get the job, he has served a long apprenticeship anyway.

I think Sumich will get it as well.
Would you really want the job?
I know they have a talented list
but it is freo's destiny to be
pretenders for the rest of time.
A bit like South Adelaide.

Soon after I landed here for work last August, I heard of the legend of why Fremantle are doomed not to win a flag as the club is now.
Apparently, the story goes that the anchor on the jumpers are a symbolic weight and the team will not win a flag until the "millstone around their neck" is removed.
As the late great Jack Pallance used to say ... believe it ... or not!

Harvey will head back to Windy Hill when Big Kev steps down at the end of the season. Apparently Harvey is still pi55ed that he isn't senior coach at Freo after being promised (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) that Connolly would fall on his own sword within 6 months of Harvey's arrival. Of course we all know that Connolly managed to pluck a decent 18 months out of the side and prevented all of these plans coming true.
Sumich will take on the dockers, who will deliver more of the same.

First thing I would change if I was their new coach ... their colour scheme
I reckon replacing the purple with a black or charcoal grey would give the guernsey a more threatening look .... Purple is a SHOCKER
They also need a cultural revamp through the whole club IMO

Harvey has been the front runner for so many jobs and pulled out of so many jobs, I question if his time has passed and I also question his capability
Agree Sumich and McKenna may be the front runners

I rekon they should go outside the usual suspects - IMO
Craig / Roos / Clarkson were definately not the front runners for their jobs and seem to be doing there job well with roos reaching the holy grail.
Some good stories have come from tryin the new.
How does D.Pyke sound ???

Connolly was a very highly rated assistant coach, at the time he had the option of 2 or 3 jobs, we have now have had the opportunity to observe Connolly as a head coach and he has been very disappointing
The Media seems to pump up certain assistants, but what they we base these evaluations on, what makes Harvey a front runner, the Bombers and now Freo have been disappointing in recent seasons...
If the Eagles win the Flag, does that make Sumich the front runner, none of us are close enough to the clubs to understand the impact these assistants have on the playing group, preperation and style of play.
Last year the Horse was pumped up as a certainty for the Saints job, but by all reports he fell well short and his preperation and presentation was very disappointing, the final decision came down between Lyon and McKenna
Who says that the coach needs to come from an assistant background, is their any reason why Lyon, Voss, Carey or Silvani could not walk straight in to the role, was Leigh Mathews ever an assistant
I just don't know how anyone assistant can be viewed a front runner, the club needs to ensure it has developed the right selection criteria for it's club and a rigorous process that answers all the questions needed to make the right selection.
Chris Bond and Mark Harvey have been talked up for many years now, both have failed to secure the head role, this speaks loudly

I dont think that the coach is the problem at Fremantle, I didnt agree with the sacking of Gerad Neesham for that same reason, they can keep cycling coaches through the club, yet each time it seems to be somewhat of a poisoned chalice for the next bloke. Get burnt out at Fremantle and you are unlikely to be offered a senior position anywhere else.
Fremantle's problem seems to be losing on the road and giving up matchwinning leads at home. The Crows were constantly punished on the road until Malcolm Blight took the club on, maybe Freo would be better off hiring Malcolm Blight as a consultant to tell them exactly what the problems are at the club and to advise them on what they need to do to fix the problems?

I am not convinced that Connolly has got the best out of his playing group
I am not convinced that Connolly has the respect of his playing group
I am not convinced that Connolly has developed a strong football culture at the club
This is his 6th season at the club, I am not convinced that he has left his foot print on the club, my view he has failed to make an impression

In regards to Neesham, well he was a Clown, was well known for hand picking recruits and not taking advise from his recruiting staff
It has taking the Club years to recover from the Neesham years

In Regards to Hondo re the Purple...I reckon it looks OK. Any other colour would clash too much with the Saints...hang on not ba real problem there as both are pretenders !
Yep Connolly is gone. Who cares who takes over cos Freo will always be a basket case

Freo is a big joke just listen to their club song. Port have won one flag since they have started whilst freo have been pretenders. Yogurt has more culture than freo.

Looks like change is in the air at the Dockers.
Maybe they got a little bit ahead of themselves last year when they had that good run and went for older players in Solomon and Tarrant trying to get there tean over the line.
I reckong Sumich will get the job.

I believe the Dockers need a strong WA footy figure, someone who ihas not been out of the game for too long and someone who will demand respect
McKenna, Pyke and Sumich would seem to be good choices
