Appeal to AFL supporters

For any of you who are principally AFL supporters frequenting the site, you will know it is an AFL-free weekend for Adelaide teams this week.

What better opportunity could there be for a footy fix this weekend than to get along and re-aquaint yourself with SANFL footy? (Especially since it is "Rivalry Round"!) None of the local games clash with one another so if you're keen, you can get along to all four games for a price not dissimilar to that of a match day ticket to one AFL game!

On Friday night at 7.40pm the round kicks off with Norwood vs Sturt under lights at Coopers Stadium (aka the Parade). Norwood has won four in a row to edge into the five and the Double Blues are looking to be a much improved side this year with limited recruiting and a new coach in Rick MacGowan.

On Saturday afternoon, it is a 2.00pm start (note new start times this year!) when Port Magpies take on Glenelg at Alberton. Port are looking to regain some of their early season form following a run of recent losses and the Bays are on a high after a 22 goal win last week over Westies.

On Saturday night, the steamrolling dogs will be out to avenge last year's grand final loss to the Eagles for a second time this season. The Eagles have been a bit up and down and are looking for some consistent results and will be hoping to beat the dogs in the biggest rivalry of the millenium so far. The game is at Hamra Homes Oval (Elizabeth) and starts at 6.30pm.

On Sunday, there a crucial clash at Alan Hickinbotham Oval (Noarlunga). South put up an honourable effort against Central last week to lose by just 21 points whilst North had a big win over the Eagles. The ladder is tight and South will want to keep in touch with the final five whilst North will be seeking to consolidate a top 3 position.

West has the bye this week.

Hope to see you at a game and please, try not to wear any AFL merchandise - its rivalry round in the SANFL!

as you know squawk i'll be at all four games & for those that dont know the football at sanfl level is a much better spectacle than afl football, because teams try & win rather than teams trying not to lose, hey squawk, i'll bet if they go & haven't been before (or for a long while) they'll be very surprised & would go again, i know that from experience as a mate hadn't been for a few years & goes almost every week again now

Well said Dutchy ... if not for commitments with our new-born this season I would have at the very least been out to Prospect each time making use of my home-match ticket. I should be right to organise a leave pass soon :)

I tried to get away to Thebarton on Anzac day but he was only 1 week old so my application was refused

Squawk still a good call to prompt us tho, the SANFL is very competitive this season and we should all support it as much as we can.

I suspected that might be the case in the main but there may be a few occassional visitors looking for something to do this weekend.

I wouldn't know where the Crows and/or Power forums were - if anyone does and is a registered user, maybe they could copy the thread onto such sites.

If the SANFL is not for you.
Support your local teams. Make a day of it....drive into the magnificent adelaide hills and watch some quality grassroots footy. Cost bugger all to get in........ food/drink prices are low and the atmosphere is always good.

Good call but again I think you are preaching to the converted.

Would be good if the media could promote grassroots footy for this weekend, I'd like to see/hear that!

Funnier still is hondo's notion of being able to obtain a leave pass in the near future! It's over buddy! :D
