FREMANTLE has confirmed assistant coach Mark Harvey was knocked out in a weekend incident at a Darwin nightclub.

Harvey was allegedly hit from behind by an unknown assailant as he attempted to play peacemaker in a volatile situation outside Darwin nightclub The Lost Ark in the early hours of yesterday morning.

"What happened to Mark was a very disappointing and disturbing incident," Fremantle chief executive Cameron Schwab told Fairfax newspapers.

"There were a group of locals targeting our players and Mark tried to settle things down. He was struck from behind and knocked out by a man who then ran away.

"The players who were there were able to get Mark out of there."

Harvey saw Dockers' doctor Ken Withers after returning to the team hotel, but needed no further medical treatment.

Meanwhile, former Kangaroos and Adelaide player Jason McCartney said he led Fremantle star forward Chris Tarrant out of the same nightclub hours earlier because he sensed trouble brewing.

"I was there early and I did go up to Taz and tell him to get out of there because there was a big crowd there and a bit of angst going on," McCartney told AAP.

He said he did not see Tarrant become involved in any scuffles, despite a reported altercation between the Docker and another nightclub patron.

McCartney said he had simply wanted to act before Tarrant was caught up in any trouble.

"I saw him, we're managed by the same guy, the last thing he needs is to get involved in something," he said.

"You could see, I'd seen some stuff early where people were walking past, it's not the place you want to be." McCartney said he left the venue before the incident involving Harvey, and did not hear about it until the following morning.

Tarrant was traded to Fremantle by Collingwood at the end of last season.

He and then-Collingwood teammate Ben Johnson were involved in a nightclub brawl in July last year, with the Magpies fining them $5000 each over the incident.

Last weekend's turmoil capped a horror trip to Darwin for the Dockers, who lost by 26 points to the Western Bulldogs on Saturday night to fall to a disappointing 5-7 record

The Dockers seem to have the equivalent of a Babe Ruth curse. Nothing can go right for them. Lets call it the Andrew Mcleod curse

news.com.au on the foxsports page are claiming that Tarrant is alleged to of hit Federal ALP candidate for the Darwin based seat of Solomon Damien Hale who is the current NT U/18 AFL coach and NTIS AFL coach...

Haley you told me you wanted to get into the AFL system as a coach not as a punching bag....

Supporting Tassie's post it was reported on 5AA news that Tarrant hit a Federal ALP Politician .... alleged by the Pollie himself ... and then dropped his pants and 'brown-eyed' (can't think of the right term ) a woman in the hotel.

Hard to comment based on a quick news grab but my first thought was 'another discipline problem at Freo'. If they don't make the 8 then Connolly is GONE, but the CEO might need to look at installing more discipline through the entire club because it's prob unfair to lay that all on Connolly.

I wonder what disciplinary steps Freo (and/or their player leadership group) will take with Tarrant if this story is true? They gave Farmer 6 weeks.

Unfortunate that the players are helping to de-rail what looked like a very promising season for the Dockers.

they have certainly had discipline issues on-field which Connolly continues to dismiss, now once again they have an off field incident they need to deal with, there definitely seems to be a culture issue at the club

there is a nice photo on page 2 of todays advetiser of mr hale .looks like taz got him a nice one when will he learn and how many more chances will he get ? from the report in the tiser was a rowdy night for the freo boys with bottles being throwen at them as they left and harvs being k.o.ed .. what will the afl do about this ?? or

is this just another story for this bloke mr.hale to get his head in the paper and get some free publicity ?

Spider Everitt on Fox Sports News believes Tarrant should be pardoned because it WAS a polititian he hit.
So Taz got his slug out and clubbed a guy.
If I saw Taz with his slug out I would be inclined to leave him to it.

If the whole story is true well they should - but with what is currently going onfield he may just be fined.

Maybe first offence @ club may work in his way ???
