Channel 7 is useless as tits on a bull. There is no sunday televised game here in Victoria on free to air. I as many other were looking forward to seeing the cats vs. brisbane at 3pm but it will not happen. Their deal with foxtel is crap and i am pissed channel 7's coverage and commitment to the AFL has been shitehouse. I miss my two sunday games on channel 9 cause it ment i can do sweet F/A all day Sunday and watch footy but this will not be happening today. Not Happy Bruce.

Was going to happen regardless of which consortium won the rights to televise footy in 2005 9/foxtel and seven/ten. If it was still Ch 9 foxtel would have had 4 games per round and this being a split round odds on no footy today on Ch 9 either....

Any deal with Telstra/Foxtel involved is shonky. The aim of the game is to create a situation where nobody gets access to any high level sport, telephone services, or internet access, without giving the Telstra/BigPond/Foxtel group lots of money first.
If they win, in the long run the AFL will find itself having to pay that group to get broadcast - "Well the FA of Australia have offered us $x,000,000 to broadcast their type of football [Soccer] exclusively..."

living in Sydney, there is no footy full stop unless you have Fox, very few pubs show live AFL on fox, so if you want to wach AFL your only choice is fox

There will be a day when not having Foxtel will be like not having a mobile phone and all this frustration will be gone along with $80 a month out of our pockets
It's inevitable rightly or wrongly

Top post.
Rupert Murdoch is slowly getting his tentacles on televised sport in Australia. Remember - you can't watch Premier Leaguee football live on free to air in England.

Genuine question - how much is a basic package with AFL?

I think about $40- per month, I pay $69- for everything but movies....once you have kids it seriously is the best money you could spend, its bugger all compared to what you spend if you go out for dinner or to the pub a couple of times a month..

I paid $300 up front for my very compact phone and it costs me between $4.00 and $6.00 a month to run!
I refuse to have Foxtel.
http://www.isim.com.au/Prepaid/Home.aspx[No the phone is not one of the ones they sell - much more compact clamshell design.]

I was just guessing .... I got a quote from a guy at Marion a few months ago and it was $69 - $110 from memory. To get a decent package I wanted it was around the $80 - $90 I think. Forget the $80 so much ... my point was more that it will one day not seem so much to us I bet. Now that we pay $X per month for mobile and internet and don't mind anymore.

STANDARD AIM BY COMPANIES:
$49/m for Internet, $49/m for mobile phone, $50-100/m for Foxtel, $25/m for landline, and more than that for each if Telstra get their monopoly.
Me currently: $49/m for Internet, $6/m for mobile, $19/m for basic landline, NO FOXTEL.

Finally bit the bullet and signed up for Foxtel with their current free installation / first month free offer on the Footy Show. It was suggested to me that the basic package is $35, it goes then up to $114 depending on which package you want. If you cancel it within the two years it costs you $290.
I dont think its great that you have to get Foxtel to watch footy, yet Foxtel are going to get bigger and bigger in Australia as they have no real competition and are cashed up by the largest media outlet in Oz to get whatever they want.

at the end of the day its a personal choice, many I know that complain about the cost will easiiy go out and blow $200- on a night out or on booze or ciggies
at the end of the day FOX are only covering the footy games that FTA never used to cover anyway
