Round 21 1996 - Richmond vs Fitzroy

I never saw this until I found it on Youtube, and I have gotta say, I felt quite sad watching this. Anyone with a clear head would probably feel the same way watching this.

And for the record, Richardson had 24 kicks, 21 marks, 4 handballs, and kicked 7.5.

I remember reading a quote from Martin Pike that said the performance that day was "wasnt ordinary, it was disrespectful". fair call i think :?

On a related topic, I recently read a book simply called "Fitzroy" written by then president Dyson Hore-Lacey. Fascinating read for any slightly cynical AFL follower really. If even half of what was written was 100% true (i;m not saying that it wasnt) it's pretty shocking, but looking back 10 years on not really surprising, given where football is now.

I wonder how the North Fitzroy Roos would have turned out. Its kinda ironic that both fitz/north will probably be based up in QLD in the coming years.

How's Richo's hair, weird seeing Scotty Bamford out there 11 years ago too.
Looks like similar feeling to when West Torrens and Woodville both died.

It would have been a very similar feeling. I remember running on to the ground as a kid after that last match in 1990. Fortunately time has healed the wounds, at least for my family, who has followed the Eagles for 4 generations and for us at least, WWT are now one and the same.

It would have been harder for Fitzroy. They were ripped out of their home environment. They were given a last game in Perth FFS. Looking back on it, that was a disgrace and from what I've heard and read, it was only the good faith of the Fremantle Football Club that gave Fitzroy any recognition in their last game.

This pic pretty much sums it up:

I was part of that crowd that went onto the ground at the end of the game and part of the crowd that was around the Fitzroy player's race as the players went in. Although since that day, I've never been able to watch the tape of Fitzroy's final game in Melbourne, even though I have it my collection. Probably never will.
