REB's Rubbish: Round 11

Postby Rik E Boy » Fri Jun 08, 2007 12:04 pm

Welcome to ‘let’s finally rate Collingwood and Hawthorn’ round as boys and girls I’ve had enough of tipping unsuccessfully against them – I’m finally on board. Could be a good time to hop off them hey malchicks? A paltry 3 winners last week. I was badly let down by an inaccurate Dockers side and Essendon got the rub of the green (just for a change) surely their luck can’t continue to hold up? 48 winners! Yikes.

West Coast are primed to knock off Sheedy’s rabbit foot bunnies this week at the Dome. The Bombers’ record against the Eagles at the Dome actually isn’t bad but come on…seriously they can’t get another dodgy umpiring decision so they can yet again fall over the line? Daniel Kerr returns for the Eagles and that midfield is looking very ominous to match up on once again. Operation ‘get Essendon into the finals ahead of Port and the Kangaroos’ is going well so far but expect the AFL’s best laid plans strike a well oiled hitch this weekend. West Coast by 22 points.

Hawthorn should be able to knock off Sydney who have struggled a fair bit in Melbourne so far this season against sides that aren’t playing anywhere near as well as the Hawks are at the moment. The Hawks are hungry and the Swans haven’t been hungry since they won that belt. Sorry about the rocky punch line but the Swannies do appear to be surly and on the ropes lately. Roos and Goodes have been grumpy and the Hawks will be happy. Hawthorn by 19 points.

Western Bulldogs will snap out of a two game funk by defeating the seriously underwhelming Lion Cubs at the Gabriella this weekend. The crowd will be focussed on Aker and maybe the Lions will be also but after the Carlton debacle you can rest assured that the Pups will be ready to put the bite on the home side. Yes, I’m finally off the Brisbane train which has sat at the same station the whole time…hardly a platform for success. Aker to infuriate the Lions faithful with the grandstanding hand standing with the Dogs comfortable 40 point victors.

Port Adelaide will find comfort away from the loyal Tredrea baggers at home with a reassuring win against a Carlton side that is playing like it has nothing to lose. Carlton are tempting here but I doubt the capacity of this unit to back up after their good win last week. The Power also has some handy inclusions in the form of Brogan and Wilson who will add some much needed experience to a side that has..dare we say it, been a little soft? Perhaps Choco has thought the same way as Lonie has been axed. Young ruckman De Luca has made way for Brogan and Krakeour takes the place of the unlucky Bentley who I thought was cruising. Extra strength in the ruck and the back half will see Port salute by 31 points as they get their groove back.

Geelong might have looked up the word ‘trepidation’ at the start of the year as it regarded two trips to AAMI in three weeks but now they have looked up the word ‘opportunity’ as they strike an unsettled Adelaide unit at a time when the Cats appear to be at the peak of their powers. The opportunity exists for the in-form Cats to put a large gap on a fellow top four contender who as this stage is really struggling to put the ball through the sticks. The loss of Perrie will sting the Crows as he has done well against Geelong in the past and you can expect Cameron ‘Sponge’ Ling to soak up Goodwin’s possessions in one of the many intriguing duels of this match. The Cats will be purring after winning this tough match by 11 points.

St Kilda faded away badly last week but will certainly be up for this game. At 4-6 and with a trip to face West Coast at Putriaco looming, this is a game that the Lyons cannot afford to drop – and they won’t. The Roos lost a defender in Shannon Gibson after slipping in the shower of all things and this will make it tough for Laidley as he tries to stop Koschitzke, Riewoldt and Gehrig in the Saints forward line. Stop em? I can’t even spell em. Dal Santo will be tagged out of again by Swallow so the pressure will be on Baker to do the same to Shannon Grant. The Roos look a little better in the middle but if the Saints can lift in midfield and break even then they can give their star studded forward line the opportunities they need to tan the Roos. St Kilda, but only just, by a single point!

Fremantle were a bit stiff to lose last week but they’ll pound Richmond in the West with Pavlich giving the unfortunate young stick insect who is assigned to him such a bath that he won’t have to shower for a month. Tarrant is also marking everything and if these two blokes get the radar going expect a real blowout. The only case you can make for Richmond here is a coffin and that’s where their season will be after Fremantle win this game by 66 points.

Collingwood, as overexposed as a talent free Big Brother contestant has somehow managed to fly under the radar this year. With an excellent blend of youth and experience, the Pies have been methodical in their football this season and most importantly consistent. One thing is for sure – they know how to win and don’t go down without a fight. One team that doesn’t know how to win is the Demons. Yeah, they broke through last week but the Pies are travelling better and have a better all round structure than the Crows right now and Melbourne fell away towards the end last week. With Rocca, Didak, Thomas, Fraser, O’Bree and Burns all in good form, it’s hard to see Melbourne backing up. Collingwood to get the win by 26 points in the end after a hard fought battle.

Regards,

REB

Mate I won't be thrilled if Melbourne and Sydney get up. I've been tipping against the Hawks and Pies all year without success!

West Coast by 40 points, Kerr back, Judd to bounce back, just to quick in the midfield, Glass will get the better of Llyod.

Hawthorn by 25pts, Looks like my pre-season tip is looking good, I had the Hawks in my top 8. Sydney, I feel they a playing a few sore boys and the Hawks will out run the swans

Brisbane by 11 pts, Lions will be up for this one while the WB along with Freo have been the most disapointing team of the season thus far...

Carlton by 20pts, providing Fav plays, for the Blues, Waite and Fav up forward may be too much for PA to handle, Whitnal may go to the struggling Tredrea, I feel Carlton's youngsters in Gibbs, Murphy, Walker, Simpson, Fisher and Carrazo are all in better than their PA counterparts

Adelaide by 11 points, everthing points to the Cats, but the Crows have played their best footy this year when their backs have been against the wall, both sides match up pretty good with each other, hopefully Roo, Stiffy and Proplyzia will be fitter after recent games and Kenny should strengthen the spine at CHB

St Kilda BY 5 PTS. The Roo's defence without Gibson is a concern and if the Saints can win their share of the footy they may have too many forward options for the Kanga's to handle

Melbourne by 20 pts. Melbourne have been building for a month now and was super impressive against the crows and most importantly can play footy with little or no pressure as most experts have written the club off in regards to finals action. Bruce, Green, Davey and McClean all returned to form last week, while a fit Robertson and Nietz provide plenty of scoring options

Freo by 60pts... too strong at home

All the same for me except I've gone for the Pies to beat the Demons.

as usual this has a huge influence ona game of footy...hawks were brilliant in the first 1/4 and all over the Swans...but they couldnt lift their legs after that....3/4 weeks interstate + 6 day break = sub par performance

How many you got REB??? 8) puts the indicator light on...

go the Blues!
