Riccutio's future in doubt

Postby our_longreach » Tue May 15, 2007 10:25 am

Just heard some devastating news from a very reliable source that the reoccurrence of Roo's back injury is far more serious than has been reported. Apparently his injury is of a degenerative nature and it cannot be repaired. It is likely that he will not play again. Anyone able to confirm this?

Nearly everyone over 30 has some degenerative changes in their spine - not necessarily causing significant problems in function - it is often an incidental finding in scans. However, repeated strain or injury tends to aggravate the situation. The human body was not originally designed to last much past 30 years!

I guess the fact that he is probably the gutsiest and hardest player in the AFL for the last 10 years has done little to preserve his body. Psyber - How bad is a "bulging disc" is it true is cannot be fixed?

Could,I say could be a sad end to a mignificent career.

One question though.Would Adelaide have at their disposal the best medical team in the AFL? Dr.Sando,Australian Olympic doctor,Charlie Walsh, high performance coach for many years, why can this not be fixed?
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

Big call OL, As a Crows member I find it hard to fathom Ruccitio being harder than S West, J Hird, M Voss, and G Archer particularly Hird... gee he used to put his body in places mere mortals would fear to tread and he didn't have the Bulk of Roo and Archer to protect him.....His facial fractures in 2002 when he got cleaned up by friendly fire when he refused to take his eyes off the ball was classic G&D

Ruccitio as hard maybe but not the hardest...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

With all due respect, players play the ball all the time and that Hird incident (with McVeigh?) was just an incidental thing - like White's face/foot incident.

Sometimes things just can't be fixed Booney. Hopefully for the Roo this isn't one of those things.

Yep, apart from Chad, the only player from Port I'd like to see in blue, red and gold...rated him since Showdown 1 where he did three efforts in a row in about 30 s - tackle, smother, tackle to create a turnover at about the 10 min mark of the 2nd quarter - that was when I knew we were in trouble that day.....

This 'theory' has come up before .... explain to me how sitting out games covers 'that' up?

If there was a positive test then the AFL already knows about it?????

Or has someone else tested and found something ...???? The player himself? The club?

A full explanation of this 'theory' will produce more holes than 200 metres of fly screen

Don't know, but they are hiding something...

I guess we'll have to wait and see on Ricciuto. I think that they don't really know if he'll pull up good at all, so they haven't announced anything either way.
