Pickett tackle on Cornes

Postby Dissident » Sun May 06, 2007 5:31 pm

What did people think?

In all honesty, when they started talking about fronting the tribunal and possibly being suspended I couldn't beleive it. As a neutral supporter watching the game (and a really good game at that) I thought it was the perfect tackle with an unfortunate result.

Pickett pinned Kane's arms, dropped his knees to bring the player to a halt and Kane went over into the turf. I don't like seeing a player knocked out but, as long as my memory serves me correct, he didn't sling him to the ground.

Umpteen tackles a game are done the same way, pinning the players arms and dropping the knees/body. Maybe it's the "Pickett" name that makes this seem worse, in my opinion, than it really is.

Thoughts?

PICKETT = thug
UMPIRE = idiot [why not a free kick, when so many softcock frees are charitised throughout the day]

Irrespective of whether the tackle was legit or not the guy who
tacked him has disgraced himself for the umpteenth time.
His pre-occupation with hurting the opposition is what annoys people
He REALLY made sure he hurt CORNES, thats the agitating aspect of the incident

Could not agree more. It was a text book tackle and if Pickett get suspended or even cited for that then it's one more example of how the AFL is getting further and further away from what football is, a physical contact sport.

ps any thoughts on the terrible umpiring display, in particular that deliberate out of bounds call in the last 90 seconds after letting far more blatant ones go unpunished all day?

that use to be the perfect tackle even chocko said there was no malice in it, also no port player remenstrated with pickett as far as i could tell, soon the hoops will be out there instead of goal posts, the game is getting softer & softer
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

I'd have to see it again to be sure.... but he got him in the side, and it was as he kicked it.

What a lot of crap mal. It was a good hard tackle. Nothing wrong with what he did. I'm not Pickett's biggest fan but forget who it was laying the tackle and it was a good piece of play. Sure i don't want to see a player knocked out but unfortunately it happens at times. Pickett did well not to give away a free for in the back.

Pickett has done some ordinary things in his time but this is not one of them.

So you really think his intention was to hurt Cornes? If it was wouldn't he have just fallen into his back with his knees or similar rather than making the concerted effort not to infringe by pushing him in the back?

And if it was a port player who made the tackle to win the game in the dieing seconds we would be saying how good of a tackle it was. Nothing wrong with it. Mal think you just have something agaisnt Pickett

felt the tackle was okay. unfortunately cornes having his arms pinned had no chance to save his fall.
just watching interview with choco on sports tonight and said there was no malice in picketts attack on his players stating he is hard at the ball and it was just unfortunate about the cornes incident

I agree Diss, couldn't believe the talk about tribunals when its not even a free kick. (It wasn't in the back, it wasn't too high and he had the ball)
WTF are some people on?

Im yet to see a Port supporter say he should go for it which is good. It was just unlucky. Kanes head got caught under the body. Could have been a hell of a lot worse than just a concussion. I really hope he doesnt go for it.
