Did Peter Motley play any games for Carlton? :?: Just saw him at local chook shop and it just got me thinking.

He played in the 1986 VFL Grand Final as I saw some highlights of that game on last year's Grand Final footy marathon

19 games, would have been a super star if it wasn't for the accident.

Mots, about the most perfectly balanced footballer I have ever seen. I have watched greater but different styles, like Barras, Sheedy, Bartlett, Mathews, Carey (not super the big lug) And then up there Robran, Ebert (second best for me) and so many others.

But Mots was unique potential (cut short) Get a copy of the 1983 GF Sturt vs West to see the style

There was a fantastic doco on him last year on The Footy Channel. Very moving and inspirational.

Best player to compare Motley with would be Brett Burton but better
I can remember him at Sturt and he took some big speckys
Was a star
Would have been a champion no doubt

you are on drugs comparing mots to the bird man even though you said mots was better. Just cause a bloke takes some big grabs doesnt mean he was burton like. Peter motley was a stronger body a better decision maker and had skill to burn unlike burton. It is a dead set shame that we never got to see him at the top of his game for longer. Champion bloke too :!:

I think I can see where Mal's coming from, there were some similarities, but Mots was a MUCH smoother mover ... The fact that he was popular with all supporters, irrespective of who you barracked for, is a pretty big signal of how talented he was.

Always sad to reflect on his accident

Was playing at the Pat one day when on the green ahead a bloke called myself and a mate to play through. It was Mots.On about the second or third at the Pat.

On the walk to the green my mate suggested we go around with him.We asked if he would mind, and with complete honesty we said it would be an honour for us both.He was stoked to have some playing partners and we played the next 16 holes with him.

A fantastic bloke who enjoyed our footy discussion as well as having good swing and he had great touch around the greens.

Will remember that day,and his brilliant skills for a long, long time.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

I used to attend the EFM gym at Glenelg almost daily and he was also a regular there. Had many long chats about all sorts while on the treadmills or bikes - his passion for footy is tremendous and his lack of bitterness about his 'lot' a credit to him. No hard luck story for him, he just gets on with life.

Top bloke.

He was brilliant and it's hard to come up with a good modern-day comparison for someone who could play superbly anywhere. Maybe Chad Cornes or Adam Goodes? I can understand Mal's comparison too.

There's probably no need to find a comparison, we can just let the champions be themselves.
