Car Damage at Football Park during Crows v Power

Postby Sojourner » Mon Apr 16, 2007 8:54 pm

On 5AA this afternoon a lady phoned to say that she never goes to the showdowns because of aggressive behaviour, yet got talked by a friend into going this time, she went along and enjoyed the game and saw no incidents of any aggresive type behaviour. Returning to her car in the Football Park carpark she saw several people standing around her car, which had every panel bar the roof scratched out with keys. Witnesses to the incident stated that it was done by a trio of Port Power supporters who ran off once they were spotted doing the job.

Stillwell Ford have jumped in and are lending the lady a replacement car until her car can be fixed which is certainley a good gesture on their behalf.

I think that if there is an investagation into this and what the witnesses saw is found to be the case, then the Port Power Football Club should pay for the repairs to the car, that way even if they cant catch the gutless wonders that did the act, it will send a clear message to people in general that doing this stuff only hurts your own club, not the person who in this case had a Crows number plate surround on their car, clearly attracting their attention.

Sounded a bit suss how she didnt know how Stillwell Ford knew about her situation but tracked her down and offered her a car!!!...surely she would have asked....something not right there

Why should Port have to pay for their supporters crimes? (thats would open a can of worms!!!)

sorry lunchcutter........my post refered to my surprise that the car hadnt been stolen....seeing that by all reports was surrounded by a group of undesirables..............

but its crap that supporters feel the need to take out the frustration in such ways...........does nothing for the wellbeing of the game and ofcourse the personal cost to the owners..............

I agree Dutchy. PAFC can't be financially responsible for stupic acts committed by 3 of their supporters. That's like saying it's the Crows fault that loser hit Dean Brogan.

Poor form by some immature supporters but every club has them. It's not the football club's fault or responsibility.

That would make it Ports fault then

The clubs should not be held accountable for supporters actions

I disagree with that statement and so a lot of competitions around the world and even in Australia that do hold club's responsible for their fan's actions especially if its that club's home game.

how surprising that a lady that go's for the crows should have her car damage by 3 port supporters at the showdown, (which of corse she didnt see, a lady told her) a few things

1. most port supporters like damaging ppl more the things
2. if it really was port supporters dont you think they would of stollen it, not just damaged it
3 even if it was port supporters did it the club should not be responsible for payments, just cause these 3 ppl might follow them doesn't mean the club has to pay for that. if a crows fan hold up a bank, should the club pay that?.......
The problem with Barcelona is that I like fish and chips but they had to turn it into calamari and patatas

Yes, if its at Footy Park or the vicinity, its a home game, they can be clearly recognised and it happens consistently every game day and the club does nothing to stop it happening despite being aware of it.

Ultimately it's a police matter, but if anyone should be held responsible for incidents in the AAMI stadium car-park, it's the SANFL isn't it? Aren't they responsible for security at the ground on the day? I don't think the SANFL should be responsible for this incident BTW.

I would if it was my house or something similar that got vandalised.
Just like pubs often get held responsible when patrons get up to shennanigans after leaving their establishment.
Basketball and Soccer even in Australia fine clubs for the unruly behaviour of their fans, its the most effective way of eliminating it.
If the club's start having to pay the supporters soon stop it, they don't bother stopping it if it just comes out of someone elses pockets.
If the AFL fined the SANFL it would have no effect but if they fined clubs for unruly behaviour at games or in the immediate surrounds it'd soon stop.

Plus the clubs are trying to attract people to games, if they were serious they'd be proactive and do things off their own back to do this.

Mind you having said that I don't have a sticker on my car these days because of vandalism at Elizabeth, Alberton and Glenelg. Its a shame as I used to enjoy displaying my pride of sporting clubs I follow but especially these days when I get a park inside some ovals or very close to it Im not risking it.

This lady shopped her story around a bit.
She was also on the ABC's Soapbox yesterday morning.
Attention seeking?

BTW - a couple of years ago, I went to a Centrals Eagles grand final with a mate. One of our crew left a Centrals hat on the back window ledge. When we got back to the car, after Centrals had triumphed, the back window was broken and side of the car scratched. But the real kick in the guts for my mate is that he's not even a Centrals supporter! He's a Redlegs man.
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.
