The penalising of scragging defenders on forwards for over
a 100 years of football is all but over.
Ordinary defenders are now under the pump at last.
Sure there are some soft freebies so far in round 1 BUT
Now its up to defenders to adjust
I like the rule.
There is a reason why I reckon this rule has been implemented, can anyone guess why

The thing I noticed about the umpiring today was they were too embarassed to even look at the replay on the big screen of their decisions and they were so precious they'd give 50 away if the player on the receiving end of a wrong decision tried to point it out to them.
Honestly, WTF? The players didn't swear or try be rude to them in anyway, way to precious.

The new rules are destroying the game, I very seriously doubt I will be venturing to FP to watch a live AFL game this year. Nearly smashed the telly about five times today during the bulldogs/Geelong game

If anyone thinks they are good for the game then you are watching the wrong game I believe they wear skirts and its called netball.

Because they want to expand the league further...............and ammalgamate with the national netball league

THERE has been a lot of softcock soft freebies as well as genuine frees
I think the umps are overpolicing a potentially good ruling
In time when defenders learn how to ADAPT to these changes there will
be less free kicks and better contests

There is a hidden agenda chaps.....

What about the 50metre penalty against Harley on Brad Johnson for his "late" contact? He was trying to stop the mark you stupid blind umpire.

Never have I been so infuriated with the umpires after a round of AFL footy.

LLOYLD would make him look inadequate

Phil, I don't believe thats the way things should run ... A penalty for disagreeing with an umpire (minus any abusive language of course) which could potentially shape a game is ridiculous - use of foul or threatening language, then no problems, happy for it to be 50m every time.

Umpires are naturally an important part of our game and I don't mean to disrespect a role you were once committed to, but spectators flock to see the players perform, not the umpires who need to grow a thicker layer of skin imho.

I think the new 'hands in the back' rule will be the biggest storm in a teacup since the turkey slap. It's not even a new rule - just a proper interpretation of an existing one.

what about the holding the ball rule....FFS..... anyone who can hail a cab can now play and dominate AFL...... I am now following the NRL....Go the Rabbitohs......... AFL has become to soft...... Well done to the rule makers on F$#$#ing up a good game!!!!!

Didn't see much of the footy over the weekend. Did watch Fri night and a hopeless decision by the umpire in the last term giving St Kilda a game winning goal due to this new interpretation of hands in the back. It's a dumb rule which adds nothing. Why not stick to the push in the back rule which has been around forever.
