Hawthorn's guernseys

Postby Hondo » Sun Apr 01, 2007 9:19 am

Why do they plonk a big white square on the back of their guernseys now? It might highlight the numbers but geez I reckon it looks terrible. I cringed last year when they did it and hoped someone over the summer would see sense. Clubs used white squares to highlight the numbers back in the 60s and 70s.

What was wrong with a brown number on a yellow background?

Maybe there is some good reason I have missed? (You can all tell I focus on the big issues .....)

As a Hawthorn supporter   i agree with you hondo. As a one off heritage guernsey it would be alright but they've adopted it fulltime now. Irritates the hell out of me

Lot of Hawks fans on BigFooty were ecstatic when the club announced that the white square was coming back.

IIRC, it was a whole lot of crap about 'tradition.'

Bet the same supporters didn't mind the gold back and brown numbers in the 80s and early 90s...

Hawthorn wore the plain gold back(1975-2005) longer than the retro look (1950-1974),
so 'tradition' can't be used an an excuse.
I suppose people wanted a change for changes sake.

what, so tradition has to be "1 thing" does it? :?

I think as long as Hawthorn fans like it, who cares what anyone else thinks.

Anything that makes numbers stand out more is a good thing IMHO, the cows should have white numbers too.
But on numbers, it shits me that the AFL feel the need to have their logo on every individual numberal this year.

Except for West Coast. Anyone know why they didn't have the AFL logo on their numbers?

They did have them, but it was a white logo on the yellow number and was basically impossible to see.

The old 'Poo & Wee' coloured Hawthorn guernseys needed the 'White' of the Dunny Bowl & Toilet Paper! :?
