Not many would have seen it as the game wasnt covered  however Roos down 3 points with a minute to go and Grant gets a 50m penalty when he is 45m our from goal, gets taken to 15m out....a 30m penalty!..then proceeds to hit the post...if the green maggot had done his job properly it would have been a issue.....

Stuart Ween, I know your email address, get ready for some abuse on Monday

Don't disagree with you and we all like to see Collingwood lose - but lets be honest, 5 goals up and they let Collingwood back in.. also an extra 7 scoring shots and that miss, well hello - 15m out directly infront, even Mal / MT79 or I could have kicked it - no excuse for a player of Grant's skill to miss such an easy shot..

@ mistakes by the sounds of it- the umpires getting the basics wrong, & the player missing an easy set shot- both acts would be unforgivable.

I get the point in it's entirety.
I'm sure Laidley would be disappointed one of his goal-scoring forwards couldn't convert- play the hand your dealt.

I think DUTCHY is right after viewing the incident
The commentators said it should have been a gimme right in front of goal.
I know he missed from 15 meters out and that is what I call a STRAUSSISM.

Adelaide Now wrote:His shot for goal from the point of the square after a 50m penalty would have regained the lead but Grant tried to boot it into the grandstand and hit the post.

Both Grant and the ump stuffed up.

But at the end of the day, Grant missed a sitter.

Besides, the Roos should've put the result beyond doubt a lot earlier.

Went to this game, Kangaroos can only blame themselves poor kicking is poor football and they kicked poorly all day, well done to the Pies.

That's brave of you, Dutchy. Are you going to be an umpire yourself to show you can do better?

settle down Phil, I work in the same organisation as him....its a joke....pay me $100k a year and I eckon I could work out 50m, especially when a guy marks 45 out...

Yes Grant should have kicked the goal.....my point is (that everyone seems to be missing) that if the umpire had got the penalty right he wouldnt have hit the post!

Ween will have fun inthe Dimboola league for the next month!

Dutchy I understand your disappointment but if North go about blaming the umps for that loss instead of the woeful kicking (no self respecting A3 player let alone AFL player should miss from where Grant was) as Laidley has in todays Age they are kidding themselves.

If the umpire gets dropped for that mistake equally so North should drop Lindsay Thomas (0 goals 5 points) and Grant for his howler. To single out Stuart Wenn's mistake as the reason why North lost compared to the plethora that of mistakes North made is not looking at the big picture.

Yes the ump **** up but to say Laidley expects an apology from Geischen but nothing from Grant (as he is a professional) is hypocritical in my book.

Whats good for the goose is good for the gander

Players are supposed to make mistakes, umpires cannot afford that luxury.

Tassie - I NEVER said it cost us the game...im actually happy with our form, and yes we had 10 more inside 50's and 9 more scoring shots..

I have no problem with Umpires making mistakes when they are interpretations of the rules, they are human and I hate Umpire bashing BUT working out the distance of a 50m penalty when the mark is 45m out aint rocket science and I think it is quite reasonable me and every AFL fan to expect them to get that right.

I think even our kids could work out that a 50m penalty anywhere inside the 50m mark goes all the way to the goal square...

Can't argue with that.

As an experienced player I dont think you need to say a thing regarding the kick, he hit it hard (how many time do you see guys trying to guide those kicks through and miss? i.e. Motlop)

He has won more games that lost for us with important goals and apart from Hale he would be the one I would like to have the ball to kick a goal for the game.
