We are Geelong, the greatest team of all,
We are Geelong, we're always on the ball,
We play the game as it should be played,
At home or far away,
Our banners fly on high from dawn to dark, down at Kardinia Park

So! Stand up and fight, remember our tradition
so stand up and fight, it's always our ambition
throughout the game we fight with all our might
Because we are the mighty blue and white
and from when the ball is bounced, to the final bell
STAND UP AND FIGHT LIKE HELL!

I had a couple of friends over tonight (all cats fans) who said the same, crikey, Choko has always looked fairly fit at Port training over the years but hes absolutely farging huge now, way bigger than Andrew (Darren's still a close bet).

I was annoyed when I heard it was going to be a downpour tonight as I was confident Geelong would kick Ports arse on a decent ground in decent conditions and it was a real lottery which basically came down to how much intestinal fortitude Chad Cornes.
Luckily for Geelong he he has none.

Yep Round 2 of the NAB Cup, a match that Port should have won.

Most (objective) observers would rate the combination of Lade and Brogan as one of the best, if not the best ruck combinations in the league. Geelong had Mark Blake who has played less than 20 matches and Trent West who is yet to play senior football for the Cats in the ruck. Yet the Cats dominated play for two whole quarters of this match.

Port went in without Salopek, Tredrea, Motlop and Peter Burgoyne anyone else boys? Can't think of any. That Cats had no Ottens, King, Ling, Chapman, Johnson, Rooke and Milburn so I would hazard a guess that Port had more of their regular hands on deck.

On to those that did play.

1st Quarter: Port smashed the Cats with an avalanche of possession. Damon White was menacing up forward (on Egan early I think it was) and the Cats tackling was non existent. At quarter time my beer wasn't tasting too flash and we were 17 points down and in literally torrential rain we didn't look like getting anywhere near it.

2nd Quarter: Geelong's comeback was kick started by James Bartel, one of the league's premier mudrunners. The Cats started running again and the hard work was ably finished by Cameron Mooney who had a great game. Port by two points at the break.

3rd Quarter: Geelong dominated the third quarter, keeping the Power goaless for the second stanza in a row. Highlight of the quarter was a brilliant effort by local boy Nathan Djekerra, who bumped Dom Cassisi of the ball to kick a goal and bring the small crowd to it's feet. The Cats had the crowd on side from then on.

4th Quarter: Leigh Colbert, one of Geelong's favourite sons (yeah right) puts the mozz on us by declaring us home at lemon time with the Cats 18 points to the good. I was confident myself but probably wouldn't have said it on live TV given our recent history. True to form the Cats stopped and Port took over in the ruck with Rodan bobbing up everwhere, Chad proving impassable down back and Ebert and Pearce finally getting into the game after fatboy game em a bit of a roast. Port managed to hit the front and it looked all over with two minutes to go until that man again Bartel bobbed up with a great goal. Soon after Port got the ball down to their attacking zone and Matty Scarlett was pinged holding the ball trying to disguise a three pointer, instead it's six points to Redleg Cockshell. Still not too sure about that call. Siren time comes and it's all square. Here we go again.

Extra Time: Only one score in the first period as Brett Ebert has more time than he thinks he has and rushes his gettable shot at goal..one point. In the second half of extra time Joel Corey gets a dodgy one and boots it to Cam Mooney who converts. As REB is celebrating, the ball goes down the other end and Chad Cornes gets an even dodgier one (can anyone tell me what that 50 was for???) and he gets a 50 and then hatches the ball, even seeking a towell to dry the pill which you can't do. Chad's sitter is missed and it couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke as he has been whining at the umpire (hard to believe I know) all night and according to commentators he gave his team mates a mighty spray as well. Port still have another chance to win the game but in the last shot is after the siren and it's punched through for a point.

After Chad had marked it, he started his walk back to line up for the goal, and had the ball knocked out of his hands by a Geelong player. Chad was 45m out when this happened, the umpire only awarded a 30m penalty, because a proper 50m penalty woulda put him directly in front 10m out. Instead he got put on the angle.

See that's what you Power guys don't get. In your club song the words aren't meant to be taken literally, they are there merely there to enhance comraderie and help celebrate a win. We say we're the greatest team of all , Collingwood reckon the premiership's a cakewalk and apparently Carlton never let you down. However, Port does take their theme song literally and since you've come top top top you've come to a stop stop stop.

Didn't see the incident but if he was inside 50 it would be pretty hard for the ump to get the distance wrong on the 50m penalty. Bottom line is he was obviously close enough to kick a goal he should have made and Figjam Cornes couldn't deliver.

Positive thinking- Norman Vincent Peale style? :D

One thing that is great about Geelong is that we have our own home ground that is truly our own. We dont play finals on the Crows home ground to 29 000 people and try and pretend that we have some type of affinity with it.

I like the Geelong Guernsey as it is the same as the original South Adelaide Guernsey, yet what is great about that is that we can do what we like with it, rather than having to having to get the permisson of the Collingwood football club to approve what we do anytime a decision has to be made as is the case with any decisions taken at the so called Power.

it would certainley be a point that there is nothing great about being a club that is dictated to constantly by Collingwood, the genuine working class Black and White Magpies.
