Seeing as so called "AFL Experts" such as Sheehan and Rucci publish their Top 50 AFL players annually, I am curious to know who others think are the best players in the AFL.
To save you all from thinking of 50 - I thought it would be interesting if you post who you think is the best player at each club, assuming all players on the list are 100% fit. Here is what I think:
Adelaide: Simon Goodwin
Brisbane: Jonathon Brown
Carlton: Brendan Fevola
Collingwood: James Clement
Essendon: Scott Lucas/David Hille (I can't split these two)
Fremantle: Matthew Pavlich
Geelong: Cameron Mooney
Hawthorn: Sam Mitchell
Kangaroos: Brent Harvey
Melbourne: Cameron Bruce
Port Adelaide: Shaun Burgoyne
Richmond: Nathan Brown
St Kilda: Nick Riewoldt
Sydney: Adam Goodes
West Coast: Chris Judd
Western Bulldogs: Brad Johnson

LOL. What about Yze ahead of Brock McLean, David Neitz, Russel Robertson, Cameron Bruce, Jeff White and Brad Green!

Yze is darn lucky to still be on their list. At least when you are trying to select Tigers and Roos you don't have quite so many good players to choose from.

I (obviously) rate these players pretty highly. I love the way Harris goes in and gets the hard ball. Wells and Harvey I did consider, but went with Harris. Brown hardly played last year and I don't rate Richo. Bowden always stands out - probably the opposite type of player to Harris, but is good value to the Tigers IMO.
Brock McLean, I'm basing on seeing him play in the finals last year where he was awesome. Could easily pick a number of other Melbourne players namely Neitz, Yze, White, Johnston, Bruce, Green, Robertson. OT - geez the Dees have got some talent.

Matty Richardson has kicked 690 goals at AFL level and at full fitness is clearly the best player in the Richmond line up. You don't kick nearly 700 snags if you're no good.
As for Bowden, yes, he always stands out...because he collects large amounts of meaningless possessions. In fact in the yet to be published
REB's Encylopedia of Australian Rules Football (2012) {Pie in the sky press}, there is a new football term to describe the collective term of useless, go nowhere possessions that is typical of Wallace's wonky game plan..it is called a
Bowden of cheap possessions. He was at it again last week, another 30 possessions, another flogging for the Tiger back six. The AA mob got in on the act and promptly chucked him the side...twice! Bloody laughable. Joel Bowden is the most overrated footballer in the AFL by a considerable margain in my view.
When Richo gets big numbers in terms of Marks or Goals, the Tigers usually win. Bowden's big numbers equal four fifths of five eighths of **** all.

I noticed a few people have put Lance Franklin for their best player at Hawthorn. I disagree (time to kick start some debate).
Don't get me wrong - Lance is going to be a superstar, no doubt. But is he really the best player on the current Hawthorn list?
He is beginning to show glimpses of his brilliance, and he would certainly be in the top 10 on their list - but wouldn't the likes of Hodge & Mitchell be considered more important to the side, for now at least? Thats IMO anyway.

I totally agree blink. Franklin will MAYBE be Hawthorn's best by the end of the year if he stays fit and continues improving. But there is no way he could be rated above the likes of Hodge just yet. There is no doubt he is probably the most IMPORTANT player to Hawthorns chances of making the 8 but he wouldn't be their best, not yet.
