Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

interesting tassie1980, would think, even though they havent done all that well with their squad yet, the saints would be a shoe in for the top 8.

just interested why you consider the Saints a shoe-in

coach is an unknown quantity, most importantly, so many Saints players have had modified or interupted pre-seasons due to injuries

my view, a good pre-season sets up your season, this may hurt the Saints

GTS you're right I forgot about the Saints, I have them bracketed with Collingwood, Richmond, Geelong and Port Power as five teams battling for the last two spots in the eight.

They're not shoe ins but they should make it, wether they go on is another matter as players that are critical to their success (amongst others) Harvey and Hamill aren't the players they once were. Plus they play too many games at Telstra Doom so they're going to cop injuries, hey Mal

1980 Tassie Medalist

they also seem very slow through the middle and this may hurt them

given a good year with injuries, I'm predicting gthe Hawks to jump a few places

they seem to have options up forward with Williams and Franklin, Croad and Roughhead need to spend the majority of the year in defence and their midfield is underated, Crawford, Hodge, Bateman and Mitchell, they also have some hard nuts in Brown and Guerra

not to mentioned, they are well coached

I believe the HAwks are a year away from the eight, a chance this year but good things for 2008 IMHO. It will be interesting to see how St Kilda react to having a decent ruckman who gives them a chance at first look at teh footy plaus it will free up kosi to play as a utility tall closer to the goals.

They have the talent but can they get their heads around R Lyonscoaaching style....

Gee two AFL coaches who have CDFC roots.......

SD

Personally i dont rate Hawthorn at all. Saw them at AAMI last year against Port, extremely ordinary. I think Richmond has a stronger chance of making finals this year than the Hawks do.

My post on the BigFooty ladder predictor thread

Postby Rik E Boy » Thu Feb 15, 2007 8:43 am

1. West Coast: Will be tough to stop again. Showed they can win without Judd and when they weren't at their best.
2. Fremantle: To complete some WA domination this season. A talented list with some real hunger that will go a long way.
3. Sydney: A hard working combination that has more talent than it is often credited for. Even the so called 'unheralded' players can be damaging.
4. Western Bulldogs: Poised to improve on last year with better luck with their talls.
5. St Kilda: Injuries always a key for this side but I think it's premature to be saying that the 'window is closed'. It might help actually having some ruckmen as well.
6. Geelong: Not top four but not ten either. Plenty of Cats will be playing for the careers this season and the leadership issue appears to be addressed. I expect an improvement. *one eyed supporter alert*.
7. Adelaide: Not looking as strong in the ruck and may have a few forwards underdone early on. Will play some good football but might drop a few extra games this season.
8. Melbourne: Plenty of people are falling over themselves to rate the Demons but I've never been one of them. Defence and road record a worry for mine.

9. Hawthorn: A club on the improve as any Cat fan could attest. Many are predicting a sharp Hawker rise this year but I reckon they might have to wait one more year.
10. Collingwood: Not as bad as many suggest, they may drop back a bit but not as by much as many pundits are prepared to point out. How much will they miss Tarrant?
11. Port: In rebuilding mode still, the Power will play some blinders but you can throw in a few shockers as well. If they got as pumped up for every match as they do for Showdowns (granted big ask) they'd be in the top eight.
12. Essendon: Will improve, but seriously they'd have to after last years 'effort'. Lloyd back will make a huge difference but how much will they gain out of getting the services of a fullback who had 'had a gutful' late last year?
13. Richmond: You've got be concerned for any club that picks up Kent Kingsley and Coughlan has done his knee again the poor bugger. Wallace will nurdle out some wins but I reckon this mob is miles away.
14. Kangaroos: The club that everyone loves to underrate and I've just done the same perhaps, but the personnel appears to be down. How many tricks does Laidley have up his sleeve?
15. Brisbane: The exodus continues from Lionland and this looms as a tough season.
16. Carlton: Will need to find some extra scoring options to support Fev. This club will secure an additional kitchen implement to add to the collection come round 22.

SydneyD, just think that with their talented list of players they have to gel properly soon. also if all goes well on the injury front id consider putting them up even higher in the eight. players like dalsanto, ball and maguire are genuine guns of the afl and with them being in the team for atleast 20 games each along with matt clarke (who will absolutely dominate for the sts)should quite easily gain enough wins for the year.

having said that, dont believe theyll have what it takes to go all the way.

I hear today that Kosi has done a quad and could be out of action for a month, best case he may be right for rnd 1, so once again he will lack match fitness and conditioning, this will be the case for another 5 or 6 key players

I hear your point regarding the Talent on the list, but fitness is such a key factor, you can have all the talent you like, but if they lack a solid fitness base they will struggle at this level

On the Saints list, I don't believe there list is as deep as many observers first thought, I think they struggle for depth
