I was reading in the vic papers on my holidays last week about new rules that the AFL may trial in the pre-season comp next year, 2 of which i thought were really good, just wondering what everyone elses thoughts were...

1) Free kicks or marks inside the goalsquare to be taken from straight in front of goal, no longer from angles so obscure not even pythagoras could work it out....

2) Set shots at goal to be taken within 30 seconds (no more grass tossing!)

Whaddya think??

The 3rd option is to have players kicking out from defence without having to wait for the umpires to signal scores with the flags.

I don't like change...but the goalsquare mark/free option is a smart one. The others are unnecessary.

Grasstossing is for posers (Look at me MuM, I got the ball).

and it makes one look like a dickhead, especially when the grass is tossed at the Dome when the roof is closed.....

It's part of his routine...silly I agree, but no point having an "indoors" routine...

Great that Matty Lloyd now needs to cut his regular set-shot on goal time by half...

I like these rule changes 1,2 and 3. Also liked one last preseason on when the ball hits the post it is recorded then play on.

I never understood with that "hit the post is play on rule" why if a ball is kicked into the post, or brushes it on it's way through the goals, why wouldn't it then be deemed as a goal??

BTW .. I freakin DESPISE that rule!!

I always thought you should get a higher score for hitting the posts...it's harder to do!
