AFL star Kerr on assault charge
WEST Coast AFL player Daniel Kerr and his father have been charged with assault during a party in Perth.
Police confirmed they had charged a 23-year-old Kardinya man with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm at a party in the southern suburb of Attadale last Saturday.
They also confirmed they had charged a 46-year-old Kardinya man with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and two counts of assault.
Officers did not identify the two men but the Seven Network reported tonight the two were Daniel Kerr and his father Roger.
Detective Senior Constable Nedbib Uzonovic told Seven the victims, believed to be three teenagers, suffered injuries including a broken nose and a chipped tooth.
Kerr, 23, has developed into one of the finest players in the AFL in recent seasons.
He finished second in the Brownlow Medal count in 2005 and third last year despite being ineligible for the award due to suspension.
The midfielder was one of West Coast's best players in last year's premiership victory over Sydney.
Kerr is no stranger to bad publicity having been involved in a brawl with fellow Eagles star Ben Cousins in 2002 in which Cousins broke his arm during post-season celebrations.
Kerr was recently named as one of the 50 hottest sports people by an Australian sports magazine.
He is expected to appear in a Perth magistrates court next Tuesday.
