CARLTON will boost its ruck stocks next season by signing out-of-contract St Kilda big man Cain Ackland.
The Blues will use their No.1 pick in the pre-season draft to secure the 24 year old after offering him a lucrative three-year deal.

This is the most correct thing you have ever posted !!!
Cause Carlton had no rucks stocks to begin with !!!

Ackland should hopefully do OK at the Blues - should be close to the No. 1 ruckman, now that Barnaby French has gone.
He did play a few really great games for the Saints, so Blues supporters can take something from that...

CP
going by what the age paper said is that dylan is still there. reading between the lines of the article on ackland it showed that pagan wanted gardiner but carlton over ruled it and told him to commit to the clubs plan of only recruiting players 24 or under hence getting cain to cross over from the aints

Thanks for that MIT80 ... Watched a couple of Carlton games last season and I was actually impressed with his (Mclaren) ruck work

Syd-Dog is brilliant at reading the paper and then putting the story onto a forum topic. Brilliant!

Maddogmike
your point is
I thought the one of the purposes of this forum is to highlight and debate footy, given the off-season the main resource for footy stories is the media, so yes I am highlighting the stories, it's up to individuals if they see value in the thread or want to discuss the thread further

Once again we agree REB

Can't see what Carlton see in him at all and to offer him a three year deal seems bizarre in my book. Do agree with CP that I think McLaren is a better ruckman than is given credit for and better than Ackland for that matter. Think that someone like Craig Parry would be the ruck equal of Cain Ackland, even at AFL level.
Assuming that he hasn't been delisted, this also brings me back to my old hobby horse in Chris Bryan. Why didn't he get more of a go this year?

Jeez mal, that's a bit ruff, a paw attempt at humour, or as the French would say, a mal joke.

On the ACKLAND pick up
1. Demostrates how critical it was to retain both Russell and Thorton which released their first pick in the pre-season draft to select Ackland
2. Ackland selection now eases the pressure on Carlton to take a ruckman with the #1 draft pick, so Gibbs may be off to Carlton
3. It now places greater expectation and responsibility on Gardiner with no obvious back up at this stage
This one move has changed the dynamics at both clubs

Crows will draft Craig Parry in the pre season draft.
