Given that the trade period is over, I was interested in membersa views on who will be the No.1 Pick
My tip is Matthew Leuenberger
Only because Carlton has the No.1 pick, Carlton do not have a quality ruckman on their list and they did not trade for a ruckman
I am not saying Matthew Leuenberger is the best player in the draft, but it is the Blues biggest need
In regards to my club, the Crows have obviously made their intentions known for key position players BUT i would not be suprised if they took Campbell if he was still available

Hoping and prayingt that Gibbsy is available at 3 but think Bombers will take him, in the 2nd round I would love to get Alwyn Davey
Crows may go for Edwards from North

Dutchy, I think your right about Gibbs, I would be surprised if the Dons baulk at him
couple of questions,
1. Alwyn Davey did pre-season at Melb last year but was ignored in the draft, has he developed further this year
2. Edwards, can you tell me more about this kid

My apology
Edwards was the boy I was thinking off, he finished in the top 3 in 3 or 4 disciplines during the draft camp, my understanding he is a wingman / midfielder

Davey burned for South esp late in the year and if possible looked quicker than his brother, although not as tall, he is a true old fashion rover. Would think he might go late 1st round eraly 2nd round - wont be ignored
DOnt know much about Edwards but Jarman said this week he hopes the Crows will tkae him, if still available....he said he has the best skills he has seen since D Jarman, hits targets and doesnt burn the ball
try this -

I am not confident Edwards will make it thru to pick 14, secondly I am not confident the crows will take him, considering their need for quality talls

I think Carlton will take Gibbs mainly because of the outcry that would occur if they overlooked him and he turned out to be a superstar.
I think my club (Port) will probably go for Mitchell Thorp, who is probably the best key position player after Hansen and Gumbleton, or if Thorp is taken, they may go for Selwood. May actually be a case of which one out of the 2 Brisbane dont take, Port will take the other.
I predict that Leunberger will get taken by the Hawks at pick 6.
I think Edwards will probably be available at the Crows first pick, but agree the Crows may go for a KPP.

The question I have is what pick will Sellar be??
At the start of the year he was mentioned as a top five pick and he looked good early for us but he fell away towards the end of the year and he didn't have a good carnival....
will he still be available at pick 14???
Has he good the goods to be a player, is he just an athlete??? Not a footballer......

if available at pick 14 would you draft Sellar
GWW, I think Selwood might join his brother at Brisbane

I agree, its a good chance Selwood will go to Brisbane, depends on the Lions' thinking though given that they have recently lost key defenders Leppitsch and Mal Michael. They may wish to shore up their defence in which case they would probably go for Thorp.
I hope Port goes for either Selwood or Thorp over Sellar. I get the impression that Sellar will either be a superstar or delisted within 3 years, its hard to know which, i'd rather not take the gamble though.

S-Dog and GWW I honestly don't know,
My take on James is that he is very raw and has a lot to learn about the he was good early when sides didn't know too much about him so he snuck under the radar a bit. He was great in the Ruck in the 1st game against North at the Bay, where he could use hi natural jumping skills to compete in the ruck and then follow the play.
Once found out a bit he either didn't have the natural competitiveness to fight it out on the ground or lacked the footy smarts to adjust his game and develop new tactics to win the footy....I don't know which.
His strength is that I see him as the prototype 2010 footballer in the Kouta 99 version James Hird 2000-2002 / Adam Goodes 03-06 mould in that he can run all day but his height lets him play tall through the midfield and then drift forward as an option. With teh way footy is going ATM he is the new model footballer perfect for the current game style.
His weakness (question mark) is how competive is he and can he really play or he just an athlete....
In answer to your question Syd-D I would draft him @ 14 (if available) based on his potential (great word isn't it

) and the fact he is home grown so your cahnces of losing hime later are reduced.

Good Assessment, the crows round 1 pick is a big call from the club so it will be interesting to see what type of player they go for

#1 - Bryce Gibbs. Though LettuceBerger is a chance...I just cant see Carlton over looking the white knight from Glenelg...not whilst Sticks is there.
Port #1 (real #5) - anybodys guess really. If Gumbleton is there we'll pick him, if Selwood is there we'll pick him, if Hansen is there we'll pick him. Picks 1-4 are completely up in the air...first time this has happened in a long time. Depends on whether Selwood and Leuenberger get into the top 4.
Im thinking it might go:
1 - Gibbs
2 - Gumbleton (Ess)
3 - Hansen (NM)
4 - Selwood (Bris)
5 - Port???
If it goes like that then we have the choice between Leuenberger and Mitch Thorp. We need both a Ruck and a Power Forward. Id go Thorp. If Hansen or Selwood are available we would go them though.
I do have an annoying feeling we will draft Sellar at #5**
Crows #1 - Ben Reid.
** Just on Sellar. I see him as an in between height, a height where a lot of players have failed before. Hes too short to be a full time ruck (in this day and age of 200+cm rucks) so would have to play as a key forward...a position where he hasnt really excelled during his career. There have been plenty of players whove played Ruck all their junior career but have to change when they hit SANFL/AFL level and cant continue their impressive form.
I also think that on the field he looks....almost shy. Ive seen him 4 times and he impressed me once. He doesnt seem to command the football.
A lot of people still rate him very highly though. He could well go at #5 with us. Hawthorn and Geelong at 6 & 7 are also big possibilities. He'll definately go first roun...most likely 6-12.

On Sellar, what height is he ?, living in Sydney I have not seen the kid play, but reading all the repors I thought he was more a key forward then a ruckman
you could argue that Goodes is also that in between height, not tall enough for the ruck, maybe a fraction too short for a key position but has the athletic and aerobic ability to play on the ball, so it all depends on the size of Sellar's engine
On the Bombers, I think they will target a hard running midfielder as this is their biggest weakness, lack of pace and lack of class thru the midfield

I think Sellar is 195cm.
Goodes is 194cm but has a huge leap (though he does not ruck anymore) and is the quickest and most agile >190cm player in the game.
From what ive seen and read (The Tiger boys will give more detail im sure), hes been a ruck for most of his junior & school career. He started playing as a forward this year.

The Blues will take Gibbs.
Gumby/Hanson/Burger for the next three spots.
I have a feeling the Crows will go for a non SA boy.
I wouldn't be suprised to see Sellar drop to late in the first round - not sure. the Pies might take him though if the Power don't.

I like the way edwards goes about his stuff on the footy field - would not be upset if he ends up on the crows list at all !!!
