sorry lads, I just read the article

he looks like a Telly Tub

you would of thought this guy would of presented himself to training in fantastic nick, honestly footy is at the level now you need to be right to go from day 1 pre-season, not playing catch up

Footy hasnt been on his high list of priorities over the past couple of months - give the bloke a break, if he is like that in December then have a crack

Syd makes a valid point to be able to train for AFL Footy you have to be fit to do so. With the condition J Hay is in ATM overuse injuries are highly likely.....

His training can be modified to prevent this happening but the change in training stimulus and intensity comes at a cost, you aren't able to get as fit as you normally would if you were able to do the full program.

I'm not saying that he can't get down to an appropriate training and playing weight but his well documented motivation problems are going to have to improve remarkably in the next 8 weeks for him to be able to put in the hard yards to get himself into the condition he needs to be in to play good footy.

Hopefully for his sake he can, but he has a hard road ahead of him......

hay is fat no doubt about it, but with the way training is in the afl, he will shed that....but hell, he looks preggo

Guys I don't think I am being too hard on the bloke, you hear all the elite players talk about the need to keep in shape over the off season and gone are the days when you come to pre-season to start to get fit, if you want to have a good season you need to present yourself in good nick and then build on that base to launch yourself in to pre-season and the season a head

It's the difference from doing pre-season training to having a good pre-season which will hopefully follow through to a good season, this is not the 70's anymore, pre-season is not designed just to get yourself fit, witht he amount of running in footy now you can not afford to be playing catch up, anytime

Mate, If I was a supporter I would be spewing, this is a guy that puts his hand out and takes his $400k a year, he has had discipline issues in his first year, his footy has been below par, Roo's have been critised for their recruiting policy, I thought this guy would of been hell bent to give something back to the club and the supporters and a good start would of been to turn up to training in a reasonable condition, his body condition is a result of his motivation which will be the result of his performances on the Park

Let season 2007 be the Judge

Johncock, D Jarman, R Burns.......

Johncock was never like that. Darren Jarman could afford to cos he was never going to be chasing blokes around and was in a completely different class to most. Burns - well he was a similar scenario, but also a bit older than Hay and not playing the same sorta key position!

FACTS -

Hay has a severe mental illness (some may laugh but Ive had similar in my family - not fun) therefore his mental health over the past 2-3 months is the priority surely? SD you would be the first to criticise the club if they didnt look after him in this respect.

Kangas started training 2 weeks ago and he passed the time trial test, but not the skinfolds obviously, to pass the time trail test is a positive for his base fitness as 3 players didnt

He has 6 weeks start on nearly every other footy club, surely another positive.

Id be very suprised if he plays any AFL until at least June next year, he will have to earn his stripes the hard way and so it should be

As it stands at the moment to give him over a mil for 3 years doesnt look like the right decision but we are stuck with it and have to give him every chance to live up to expectations - at the same time we are not paying anyone at the club mega bucks so Im sure the salary cap isnt bursting at the Kangas

As you said time will tell - as it has with Thompson, a great recruit and no one seems to praise the club for that one!!!!

bring on 07

yeah im with you dutchy, give the guy a break! choppy pickett was in a worst state at the START of this season and he played thru it and became an important memember of the melb side, also in his first year at the club. good to see the bloke out there training again after what he has been through. He also plays fullback FFS! think people have gone a bit over the top with all this scientific crap - just play footy! six months til a game and you worried about a bloke not being in shape!!

I will be honest here, I suffer from the same condition as Hay, Wayne Schwass and Nathan Thompson also suffered from the same condition, as does Michael Slater and numerous other top sportsmen and women, so before you start making off the cuff statements make sure you do some research on the facts of his condition.

Yes at times you get moody, yes at time you feel isolated, yes at times you feel like their is a dog barking in you, but no it is not an excuse for Hay's physical conditioning, especially given the fact he is recieving treatment and counsiling

mate, I am not trying to be over critical but it frustrates me when people use the bi-polar disorder as an excuse, once diagnosed you can manage it and live with it, before you are diagnosed, that's the toughest time as you can't work out what the hell is going on and what is wrong with you

In Hay's case bi-polar disorder is not the cause of hisd conditioning, so please lets not use it as an excuse and before you post that it is, I ask you to do a bit of research

my apology

in regards to Johncock, Jarman and Burns

Stiffy has never fronted to pre-season in Hay's condition, not even close

Jarman, yes many times, back in the late 90's I had the same view, more so now because footy is more of a running game,

Burns, thats why he did not play too many games for the crows
