Geoff Walsh resigned as Kangaroos chief executive to take up the role as chief of football at AFL rival Collingwood.

Walsh will head up the Magpies' revamped football department following the dumping of Mark Kleiman and Reg Crawford.

Collingwood said in a statement that football manager Neil Balme would continue to work at the club pending further discussion about what future roles he could fulfil.

Walsh, who was promoted from football manager to CEO at the Kangaroos midway through 2002, will start work at Collingwood on November 13.
