With Both Ben and Scotty and Perrie will be in the same boat, their is an expectation from the coaching staff, you need to have the capability to do the entire pre-season, if the club deems that you need to be nursed or managed on a restricted program, then your spot on the list is at serious risk

at the end of the day you get paid good $$$ to play footy, not spend extended periods on the sidelines

Question, do you think both Roo and Welsh could play in the same forward line together, I have my doubts

1980 Tassie Medalist wrote:IMO Roo's midfield days are numbered a la D jarman 1999-2001, M Voss 2005-06, Buckley 2006. Not to say he wont be chucked onto the ball in for short perods next year to mix things up and to make opposition players look sideways but he will be used primarily for the rest of his career in the forward lines as the leading option.
Roo's ability to do the hard work required for a leading midfield role is diminishing. With his training age Ruccitio runs the risk of strain and overuse injuries to maintain the fitness level required to play the midfield role required of AFL palyers in 2007. His training and playing load (position and games) will have to be closely monitored if we want to get 2-3 more years out of him.
An unfortunate casulaty of Roo's chaanging role is going to be Welsh. To a certain extent Scott's role in the club is going to be more of a cover for injuries and as bench player used in spurts if he plays. ATM i don't believe the coaching staff have him penciled into their best 22 for rd 1 2007.
However as we saw at the start of the year S Stevens wasn't in the best 22 but at the end of the year he was keeping McGregor out of the side. If he stays there is challenge being presented to Welsh......a spot will be there for him if he works hard and demonstrates at westies he can offer something to Adelaide in 2007.
Hungry dogs hunt best as Laurie lawrence would say....

I am not saying that at all, reality of footy is, 10 years ago you could carry 52 players on you list, now it is 38, so it gives clubs less flexibility to carry risks, this is why the majority of clubs do not offer more then 1 year contracts to players once they hit 30
Obviously, a player like Hentchel who is 23-24 still has 5 years or more of good footy in front of him but once a player hits 32 and is spending more time off the park then on the park of course you have to access the player and make the right decision for the club
The clubs need to manage their list, if we want more sediment in footy, maybe the AFL should have a vetrans list of 2-3 players, which is outside the cap, so it gives clubs more flexibility to carry players such as Hart
