On Monday night Adelaide's Phil Harper said the club had looked at the AFL Concussion protocol to see if there was a "loophole" that would allow Randall to play this week.

So, in summary, the club who was willing to put the GF ahead of her health under the AFL concussion guidelines is now being heralded for it's great leadership.

If I'm missing something here I'm happy to live and learn.
Baffling given she has commented on a personal experience of seeing a young man collapse and die in a GF after being recently concussed!

The loophole being she was tested and was found to have no concussion symptoms the day after the match. Chelsea is getting all the praise not the club so it's ok mate the club is not getting any recognition...

It's a tough one with the 12 days protocol at the moment, the key thing is as we move forward and more data is collected the industry is fast learning about the effects on the Brain of concussion.

At some point a story like this where a player would miss a GF due to it. The AFL are showing how serious they are taking this and rightly so, the effects later in life can be devastating and this needs to be in place before more men and women suffer the long term effects of these injuries.

Again as more research is done more will be learnt and more steps will be out in place.

Just one moment, if you will.

The AFL has listened to the experts and rightly acknowledged the impact repeated head knocks / concussions have on players and has implemented a system where a concussion requires a mandatory 12 day break. The vision from the day clearly shows Randall being concussed, dazed, wobbly knees, not question.

It is entirely irrelevant how she pulled up the next day as concussion symptoms can and often do not arise for several days post concussion.

For a moment in time the club, and perhaps Randall, put the Grand Final ahead of her health.

She wouldn't be a football player if she didn't mate.

Players are a bit silly at times and the potential to play in a GF would cloud ones judgement, that's what the experts are for.

Hows the boofheads (Steve Rowe etc) suggesting a weeks break between the prelim and the GF to allow concussed players to play, just cause they have served the minimum 12 days doesn't automatically clear them you dickheads  there are plenty of examples of players being out for a month + due to concussion. They don't seem to understand that cause you can't see a broken bone, it isn't a footy injury.

This sort of commentary doesn't help people understand the impact of a head injury, in fact it does the opposite.

Heard discussion about the idea last Sunday arvo on ABC radio.

The idea of having the week's break before the GF has merit, irrespective of the concussion perspective.

Air time to local leagues, fresher players for GF, Get done with all the awards rubbish in the first week etc.
Success is in trying

There was a week off between the AAMI Community Series and Season proper.

I think the pre finals bye kills a lot of momentum..having 2 byes in 5 weeks is a terrible idea

So potentially a Grand Finalist could play twice in a month, I'm not sure that's all that fair plus the nerves that a player goes through for a week would be insane at the elite level, having to do it for a fortnight would be crazy.

Chelsea is an amazing person with a huge heart, I really feel for her as it would be bloody hard watching, I've met her a few times and rang her by accident several times and she is a highly spirited happy person, I hope she gets the opportunity to lead her team to premiership next year.

No the talk was about getting rid of the pre finals bye and have the bye before the GF instead.
I dont mind it, anything that gets rid of the pre finals bye is fine by me.
I think most coaches besides Beveridge would like the pre finals bye gone, still an *premiership, much like Bob Murphy's *medal.
