Please, Port win the Ansett Cup in 2001 and the Wizard Cup in 2002, if winning two premierships in two competitions in two seasons isn't note worthy I don't know what is!

According to some clown's tattoo we also won the Gay premiership in 2009. 3 flags in a year!!!

The Brisbane side is tops for mine.

Just comparing their lists, the Brisbane team of 2001-03 was absolutely choc full of top players, to the point that I'd only really describe 2 or 3 from each GF team as being merely 'good' players. Geelong aren't far off, but I'd put that number at higher than 2 or 3 for their premiership sides.

I feel the competition was a lot stronger in the early 2000s. The Essendon side Brisbane knocked off in 2001 would've been much, much stiffer competition for Richmond this year than Geelong (although in fairness they finished 4th after the minor round).

The benefit of experience that Lions team had contributed strongly to their falling off the perch when they all started retiring, but I rate that Brisbane side at their peak as the one I wouldn't want to have to play against.

Agree re Freo and WC, but Sydney were at their peak in 2014.

The Swans won the minor premiership in 2014, had their best list IMO, then won the minor premiership again in 2016 and made the GF, and didn't miss the finals for five years after 2014.

Sydney probably saved their worst game of '14 for the GF, but by no means did the Hawks get them on their last legs.

In fact the Swans' 2012 flag was probably a rare example of a team winning the flag before their peak.

Or if North didn’t get screwed over (32-13 frees) in the ‘94 prelim, would’ve given the Eagles a real game in the GF that year
Or if they kicked 15.6 not 6.15 in the first half of the ‘98 GF...
North would’ve had 4 flags in 6 years.

North were awesome in the 90s! Different era though.
I was at that prelim behind the Geelong goals where Ablett kicked that goal. We had no hope when the ball was down the other end with buggerall time left, North really should have done better when it was in their forward line. Bloody cruel game even though we were going off and stoked at the time as Martin had owned Ablett that day.
Wish you had got up, would have been one less losing Grand Final I went to! :lol:

Brisbane

They knocked off arguably the most dominant side ever in a season Essendon 2000 to take the prize.

Are you sure about that?

I think he meant 3 in a row against quality opposition.

Those Collingwood sides weren’t quality imo. Port Adelaide looked like World beaters in 02,03 but were shithouse come finals.

Richmond play a different style and if you dropped all sides on the park exactly as they won their flags I’d suspect Richmond would win more often than not. We can all fantasise about how good sides were at the prime of our lives or have rose coloured glasses about our own teams. The end of the day the reason why these teams are top is because they have developed their games to beat the previous great sides. Richmond would suffocate all these teams and smash them on the rebound.

Brisbane by so far it ain't funny, not just the best side of the modern era either.

They played the best footy I've ever seen. Skillful, Brutal, Uncompromising & intimidating all in one, they could win a low scoring scrap and also a shoot out. They pushed boundaries off the field also.

Wonder if we will look back the opposition of Richmond in '17 & '19.

I agree,

Des Hedland, Chris Johnson, Mal Michael, Scott Brothers, Martin Pike, Vossy would eat this Richmond team (minus Dusty) for breakfast

Do you think Tom Lynch would try anything on that brisbane team, lol

if it wasn't for Covid;

Brisbane > Richmond > Geelong > Hawthorn

Given Richmond played away every game (bar Rd1) I think it ranks them slightly higher than Brisbane, despite Brisbane playing in 4 consecutive Grand Finals.

So now;

Richmond > Brisbane > Geelong > Hawthorn.

It's strange looking at that list though because I wonder how a team that won a three-peat could ever be so lowly ranked. I don't know 'why' I don't rate the Hawks during their time at the top, I just don't.

Brisbane for me. They won their grand finals as a non-Vic team playing on the MCG against Vic teams - Geelong in 07 won against non-Vic witches hats before 2 subsequent flags against other Vic teams - Richmond on their home ground had 2 flags against very ordinary non-Vic sides before a very impressive 3rd game against another Vic team after a few months on the road and that leaves Hawthorn who played 3 non-Vic sides that were simply terrible on the day.
