Whilst I agree with you, next year ANZAC Day falls on a Saturday, I wouldn't mind seeing all the showdown's, derbies etc being played on the day and they can participate in the ceremonies that go along with our most prestigious day, it doesn't fall on a Saturday until 2026 after that.

Me as well. ANZAC Day is just that...one day. Turns it into a marketing event and removes the solemnity of the ocassion. Having a band with 'Tokyo' in the name doesn't sit with me all that well either. My pop was a POW and even though the war was a long time a bit more thought should have gone in. Not a time for Rock music AFL fail.

regards,

REB

Noiseworks performed a few years back. It used to be a Defence Force band that played, and they were pretty good too.

I heard the debate pop up Friday morning and my initial thought was that the public was over-reacting, a stint on the throne with some time to think about suggests you are correct, how many WW2 or Vietnam vets would even know who "Birds of Tokyo" are, it is somewhat of an insult to them in my opinion.

Events like these should be solely for John Williamson, Barnsey and names alike IMO, it's not a showcase, it's not a festival, it's a day of reflection and honour, I don't need to be rocked, give me a "true blue" or "khe sanh" any day.

Richmond v Melbourne 36 points

Collingwood v Essendon 19 points - should be a cracker

Port Adelaide v North Melbourne 90 points spanking

Gold Coast v Brisbane 17 points - both teams copped reality checks, low scoring borefest
St Kilda v Adelaide 1 point- I can't split them, Crows have beaten no one

Sydney v GWS 34 points
Fremantle v Western Bulldogs 34 points

Hawthorn v Carlton 21 points - would tip Carlton if it was in Melbourne.
Geelong v West Coast 29 points - Eagles have been exposed

Agree with this.

ANZAC Day is my birthday and as i've got older its actually a bit of weird feeling to 'celebrate' your birthday on a day of such strong emotional reflection.

I'll usually have a couple of beers in the afternoon but if any genuine celebrations are scheduled, i do them on a different day.

Port wont win by that much in a night game, maybe half of that, Brisbane play attacking footy, it's what I like about them, they go down swinging, it will be 180+ point game.

It could be a cyclone and Port would still spank em.

I think Brisbane will adjust their gameplan, they can't play run and gun against the better teams, goldcoast will play 8 behind the ball and score less than 8 goals.

Yeah dont agree with any bands on ANZAC day, if it has to happen do it after the game like they do in the GF then those who want to hang around or leave have a choice, unlike pre-match

Love that the AFL are now including players from other leagues who bravely foughtImageImage for our country overseas. The Bob Quinn story is an amazing one, both as a player and a decorated soldier.

From https://web.archive.org/web/20140227191 ... ews_id=269

“Warrant Officer Quinn was ordered to take command of the 10th platoon and blow up a barbed-wire barrier and attack an enemy post from which a machine gun was inflicting heavy casualties...To blow up the barbed wire they had to jump out of a trench and lay a Bangalore torpedo, an explosive charge placed on the end of a long, extendable tube. Under an unrelenting hail of fire, Quinn looked at his men in the trench and told them they were probably facing death, and how he would lay the last pipe, the most difficult of all because it was the closest to the machine gun. One by one, Quinn ordered his men to jump from the trench and place a pipe under the wire. Only three of the seven came back. It was then Quinn's turn, and he was hit by shrapnel which put a hole in the top of his right thigh, but he still put the last pipe down, which ultimately made this crucial mission successful. On his way back to the trench, Quinn picked up a wounded mate, and was hit again, this time in the face, prompting another to say: "Hell, Bob, half your face is blown away." Quinn responded: "Any change would be a … improvement."

No I reckon they are a massive chance, Richmond haven't been that impressive so far IMO.
