AFL Teams and their EPL equivalents

Last year while on holiday I shared a few beers with a Pommie bloke and we started talking Aussie Rules & English Soccer. It was the day of the Hawthorn v Collingwood game. He joined me at the pub I like in Koh Samui to watch the game. As the day unfolded I explained that Collingwood were like the Manchester United of the AFL. Kind of got me thinking of what the other AFL teams, EPL equals are:

My short list - fell free to add/improve.

Collingwood = Man United. Big Fan base, opposition fans love to beat them.
Essendon = Man City - the cross town rival who occasionally comes good.
Melbourne = Chelsea - inner city toff club
Western Bulldogs = Leicester City - Bob up one year, then disappear into obscurity again
St Kilda = Preston North End - Hopeless
North Melbourne = S.c.u.n.t.h.o.r.p.e - Also broke
Geelong = Cardiff City - Strange supporter base
Hawthorn = Liverpool - They talk a bit funny
Carlton = Leeds United - were good in the 70's
Gold Coast = Oldham Athletic - just not athletic
Brisbane = Millwall - Supporters don't travel
Adelaide = Tottenham Hotspur - often around the mark, not much silverware
Port Adelaide = West Ham - from the wrong side of town
Fremantle = Notts Forrest - got close once
West Coast = Crystal Palace - Crystal Meth?
Richmond = Watford - Still owned by Elton John?
GWS = Blackpool - Also no supporter base
Sydney = Everton - Cola problems?

Except for the fact that Essendon are more successful than Collingwood so a bit of a stretch comparing to that Man City rabble who could fit all their trophies into a shower cubicle

I don't claim to be an EPL expert, far from it. Feel free to have a crack yourself. It's just a bit of Sunday morning silliness.

I would link Collingwood and Liverpool.

A lot of support and a lot of chest beating for very little return in terms of Premierships over the last quarter century.

True on both fronts but Liverpool far more successful than Collingwood .. Probably Carlton might be the right matchup

West Ham were like Richmond up until last year, always promising so much but finding as many ways as possible to slip up and fall

GWS Giants = MK Dons, manufacturedc club using trendy acronyms. Nobody is sure who actually supports them.
Fitzroy Reds = AFC Darwen, formed out of a once quite successful club, now just bumping around amateur football
