Sounds as bad as the other sports attempts to capture T20 audience e.g. Tennis, Netball etc

Our game is already fast paced FFS

as an alternative to AFL 9s to help grow the game in a social or international sense - i can see the merit in it - especially getting it onto a soccer sized pitch so you can play it easily overseas etc.

In a professional context with current AFL teams - whats the point?

Agree with this

T20 cricket works because the whole game is based around risk/reward, so shortening the game allows batters to take more risk

The Fast 4 format in tennis doesnt work because all that happens is you play less points - its not like you are holding back anything on any given point in general.

A similar thing would happen with this concept - how do players do things in a "higher octane" way that they wouldnt already do?

document.getElementById("Re: AFLX set to be launched in September").value = 'If it means more footy I am keen';

};

If it means more footy I am keen

the stadia full of people disagree with your assessment. each to their own obv

(btw test cricket is still the best by a long shot. but they each have their place)

if AFLx can get casual fans interested i think its good - but i just dont see it happening. The games only go for 2.5 hours anyway, its not solving a problem of 1-5 days like what T20 did

Lets be honest. A thread on AFLX posted on safooty.net, a place full of 40+ year old male SANFL traditional footy fans .. . was never going to result in large amount of positive feedback.

Ask my missus though and she'd probably be way keener than normal footy.

The 20 somethings on SEN this morning must all be on here pretending to be middle-aged blokes aswell. Don't think it's going to get a huge response in heartland states until it's been played.

Unfortunately this is the start of the AFL looking to take over the summer sports market

I love my Aussie rules and my cricket can both exsist if they are fighting over attendance, marketing etc at the same time of the year

I fear for cricket!!! Would hate to see the day a summer in Australia doesn't have cricket as its number one sport

Personally I think there needs to be an overriding body who monitor sports bodies with the overall best interest of sport in Australia in mind not each individual sporting body
