It is remiss that more women in sport haven't been acknowledged. So who should be?
There are plenty of women who should be recognised before the AFLW premiership players - although, there's no doubt that Erin Phillips will/should be honoured at some point.
How about Lisa Ondieki, Glynnis Nunn, at a pinch Anna Meares? Pat Mickan, Jenny Williams? Sandy Pisani? Karen Rolton, Shelley Nitchske, Lynette Fulton? Our equestriennes? Rachel Sporn?
These are names that should be considered. Honours generally come after playing careers and these ladies are SA household names.
I'm sure there are countless administrators who could be considered as well.
A monument/monuments outside the ground shouldn't be about the contribution or involvement at AO, it should be about sport - AO is our sporting HQ.

Aren't a lot of these girls included in the honourboards on back of the bradman stand?
And I'm fairly sure the lawns in the south-western corner are the Fulton lawns aren't they?

Thanks for the correction on that, had a feeling I wasn't quite right on her name.

The names I used were just examples, in regards to potential names ahead of the AFLW premiers.

BTW why did Erin Phillips carry her kids out on the oval in the GF? 8th game milestone? :)

Fair point about Meares - as I said in a previous post, I only mentioned names that could be considered before the AFLW premiers, hence the ? marks.

As for Adelaide Oval - how many game did Ricciuto and Wanganeen play there?
It's a sporting mecca, we need to think bigger than just footy/cricket in terms of growing it as an attraction. I'm not saying name stands after these women (yet), but there's plenty of room outside or within the grounds to honour them.

Ugh, I'd say we're years off even considering anything like this.

You don't become a legend overnight, unless your surname is Bradbury.

Nah, I hate everyone equally

It's true though, The blokes on those stands have over 20 years of achievements to their name, why should a chick get a berth at the blink of an eye, except to appease the feminazis

I think that's common sense. But it's 2017 so f**k it, everyone can have a stand.

Where's my stand at Thebby? I won a 6 quarter trial match against Woody South in 2011. Played 5 quarters.

To be fair to Erin Phillips, she does have 20 years of achievements to her name.

Not worth a grandstand but certainly needs to be recognised as one of the great SA sportspeople

Fair enough, maybe there should be a SA Sport hall of fame section at the oval, would be a good fit for all of this IMO

Adelaide Oval is a theatre, it's not a stadium. It is a venue that is holds stories, famous names on stands that are always a talking point when you visit and the hill and cathedral background. It has true character.

It's not the MCG which is a concrete jungle and the SCG is just a shit tip made up of continual patch up work. The Adelaide Oval tells a story when you walk in to it. The SCG used to do it before they rooted it!

Still not worthy of naming a stand after them after 8 weeks. Yes name a bar or a statue after them if you want as they have inspired but there are a lot of South Australian sporting greats that have given far greater service for an oval sport than 8 weeks that deserve a place at the Oval.

Not saying she deserves a stand but Erin Phillips has achieved a lot more than most blokes that get stands named after them, Chappell stand for instance. She's a two time Olympian with an Olympic silver medal, she's won a gold medal at the FIBA World Championships, a two time WNBA champion and now all the footy accolades.

But on the popularity of the AFLW GF I think they said on Footy Classified last night the Crows vs Lions women's GF got higher ratings in Adelaide than the Power vs Swans game and the AFLW GF got a bigger attendance than the AFL game it was meant to be a curtain raiser for the Brisbane vs Gold Coast QLD derby.

The names in the stands have significance to who played at the oval. Just because they are an Olympian does not make them qualified.

On that basis I vote for a stand being named after Adele. After all, she played in front of 70,000 plus. Cop that, 1965 SANFL grand final! ;)

I don't think Basheer would have played too many games there either.

But they all heavily influenced football in this state. Not some Olympian who's played one season of AFLW or any other Olympian for that matter.

How come Ross Oakley doesn't have a stand then?
Surely someone like Ken Farmer influenced football more in this state than Riccuito or Wanganeen?
