CATHAY Pacific will become a new premier partner of Port Adelaide and its official international airline partner from 2017.

The partnership comes off the back of the airline’s membership of Port Adelaide’s China Power Club in 2016.

Cathay Pacific, the world’s tenth-largest airline and largest cargo airline, has a long history of aviation between Australia and China. The airline was formed in Shanghai in 1946 by American Roy Farrell and Australian Sydney de Kantzow, and its first commercial flight saw it freight Australian clothing from Sydney to Shanghai.

Today the Cathay Pacific Group operates over 150 aircraft flying to over 170 destinations around the globe.

Port Adelaide Chief Executive Officer Keith Thomas said the club was delighted to partner with such a reputable international brand.

“Cathay Pacific are one of the world’s most acclaimed airlines, providing premium product and services on its global network, and Port Adelaide is proud to have them on board with us next year,” said Mr Thomas.

“The support of such a premium brand in international aviation is a great testament to the progress we have made with our China Engagement Strategy, but also the positive associations around the Port Adelaide brand as a whole.

“This latest commercial partnership builds excitement for our historic game in China.”

Cathay Pacific General Manager – South West Pacific, Nelson Chin said the airline was equally excited to partner with Port Adelaide.

“Port Adelaide’s historic move to play an official game in Shanghai next year is exciting for Australian football and the industry, and we’re thrilled to be a Premier Partner and official international airline partner of the club,” said Mr Chin.

“Australian Football in China is something that has enormous potential, and we see a partnership with Port Adelaide as a logical fit for us to support and grow sporting, cultural and business links between Australia and Hong Kong and China.

“We’ve been serving Adelaide for over 20 years and this partnership really demonstrates our commitment to the city. We’re looking forward to helping stage the game in Shanghai in May next year.”

From my understanding this was one of the key signings that would help push the China game into the black for the parties involved.

Another good get. Renault, Oak ( Parmalat ), Cathay Pacific, three big international brands on board as partners.

From Alberton to the world.

Hardly black. Although thats the second year of profit in a row, 14k is not setting the world alight.

However they are not losing money at the moment so thats a good thing fr them.

Boak announced as Skipper for 2017, his 5th season as captain.

Ollie Wines announced vice-captain, with Brad Ebert, Hamish Hartlett, Tom Jonas & Jackson Trengove rounding out the 2017 leadership team.

Very happy with Wines being made VC, clearly our next captain. Will try and get to him and congratulate him tonight.

With Boak turning 29 mid next year I'd think he'll be skipper again in '18 and then, with Wines out of contract at the end of '18 he'll be appointed skipper and his contract will reflect that. He'll be 24 and well established to lead the club. Then Boak can play out his last 2-3 without the burden of the captaincy.

Succession plan, in place.

And Tom Jonas?
He'll be lucky to get a game this year.

Poor choice IMO. What does Robbie Gray have to do to get a leadership gig?

He's only your best player by 10 miles!
Leads by his actions on field so why not make him VC.

Is it club or player picked?

Perhaps Gray is reluctant? Is Wingard seen as a leader ?
