I think Watts has upside, if Rockliff however is getting $700k for 4 year’s then I’m staggered.

He doesn't make as many mistakes when there's no footy on.

He did say POTENTIALLY.. Watts has always had potential.

Who knows, as the 3rd key forward he might prove very handy. Wont receive the same attention as he did at Melbourne, doesn't carry the same weight of expectation and will be able to benefit off Dixon/Marshall/Ryder being more focus points.

All he needs to do is compete anyway, Wingard/Gray/Gray lurking at his feet, they'll clean up the mess..

It's incredible how perceptions change based on the colours of the guernsey.

Dangerfield was a champion according to Crows fans ... until he went to Geelong then he's Clangerfield and is overrated and "I never really liked him".

Same thing here except in reverse. Watts is simply not a very good AFL footballer. He was dropped from a team that missed the 8. He has *repeatedly* shown an inability to find a hard ball, shown he isn't capable of committing to a contest, shown that he doesn't have the fortitude to be a solid contributor in a good side.

I am staggered at the fawning over him from normally stout Port fans.

Having said all that if he does sign on, I am hoping a Timmy G or Chad Cornes get hold of him and early and demand a level of Port Adelaide aggressiveness.

I always thought Melbourne played a fair part in his development/lack thereof. He went there when they were a battling club, he was fast tracked and promoted as the next big hope, and he was thrown around in just about every position as if he was going to solve all their problems.

Injury plagued, lacked confidence and wasn't ready for the step up when they initially played him.

I don't think he's any sort of genuine gun by any means, but he's obviously a better fit than Eddy up forward, and he can swing down back so is a suitable replacement for anyone if needed + can run through the mid or play on the outside on a wing.

His versatility is the key.

He's had 9 years to show this potential...
MASSIVE gamble, especially when they are clearly going to pay overs to get him

Was very good early in the season before injured .. After that couldn't make his way back to regular selection, which I guess is questionable. As mentioned, the bloke has ability but has a few key areas that let him down. Whilst a player chosen purely on potential can go either way, reckon he's worth the punt as s move outside of Melbourne could make him or break him.

So far

Monfries (retired)
Krakouer (retired)
Trengove (Bulldogs)

Possibly
Impey (Hawks)
Ah Chee (WCE)
Young (Gold Coast)
Lobbe (Brisbane)

Probably
White (delisted)
Irra (delisted)
Toumpas (delisted)
Neade (possibly delisted)

If nothing else, then Watts at least provides some depth/coverage/insurance.

Em Dubs dropping truth bombs. Sorry Bedge, but potential is a word you use for draftees or people who haven't been given a chance yet.

He is right, I almost see a similar type of overall contribution with Trengove to Watts.

The only way this works is if we've done a Trengove ($600-$700) for Watts ($300-$400) type deal to ensure we have enough cash for others.
