Rugby League is built for TV where AFL is built for being there.
Feel free to compare the TV ratings too.
Plus most of Sydney would be behind the Swans where most of Sydney hate the Cantebury Bulldogs and Brisbane.

Have a feeling that the ratings will favour league, but not by the usual margin.

The average Sydneysider wouldn't want to be near any of the crazy lebs that follow the Bulldogs, I'm actually quite impressed with nigh on 30k.

29,511 might have been the $ damage to the Belmore shopping area last night.

tv ratings would absolutely favour rugby league in sydney. remember there's 10 clubs i think in nsw and those supporters would be watching rugby compared to watching one afl side

Dunno about that, a Manly or Paramatta fan is hardly interested in who wins out of Cantebury and Brisbane. If anything they'd be likely to jump on the Swans bandwagon for the night.

OZTAM TV RATINGS FRIDAY NIGHT 22/9 AFL versus RUGBY LEAGUE

MATCH.....TOTAL.............SYDNEY.................MELB...................BRIS....................ADEL...............................PERTH
AFL 1,659,000............ 339,000...............531,000..............74,000 .................259,000...........................456,000

LEAGUE 1,032,000............ 532,000.............. 27,000...............446,000................. 11,000........................... 16,000

i think wedgie these results show sydney league supporters from the other 10 clubs would watch league than jump on the swans band wagon :D

Tonights ratings for the Melbourne/St.George-Illawarra game beamed live into Melbourne will be interesting.

MR66 just heard on the footy show (league) that 460,000 melbourne viewers watched the match last night :D

Impressive.
Naturally these figures are higher because its finals time, but the networks stance that footy codes won't
rate in 'foreign' markets grows weaker all the time.

i agree MR66 but only if you have a team from your state competing eg: melbourne storm . but if you check statistics on friday nights rugby league match sth.aust 11,000 and perth 16,000 doesn,t justify that theory IMO :D

Thats hardly a surprise since the Adelaide Rams or Western Reds weren't playing.
Why would Perth & Adelaide people be interested in a Melbourne rugby league team? :-k
