meh, he doesn't owe the public an explanation but his integrity has been lowered in many people's eyes.

Sure, Lyon may be suffering but that doesn’t mean he’s the only victim.

If you or someone you know is in need of crisis or suicide prevention support, call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or visit lifeline.org.au/gethelp.

So if Lyon is suffering from mental illness, it's not a "get out of jail free card".

I think she's well off the mark with that article.

I liked this bit, very true:

"But if you have thrown dynamite into your normal cosy world, ruined your friend’s life and that of his family, it is hardly surprising you are going to feel depressed."

No doubt, but it's suggesting she or the wider public knew of Lyon's mental health position prior to this unfolding. I'm also not so sure she understands what depression is, either. Shame, humiliation, embarrassment, those can certainly be connected to this event, depression is another beast and isn't so much a triggered matter for many, many people. For sure for some it can be, for some it won't be. Lyon, like most people, could have been living with depression for many, many years.

I agree with you that his reputation has been tarnished, but in all reality, I don't care what he's done, it hasn't hurt me one bit.

Hopefully this mess can turn into a positive of some sort, the Footy Show could really champion the mental illness cause and make greater awareness in the "bloke world" community.

While no doubt both issues are linked, if Garry is to recover they need to be seperated, while what he did was an ordinary act, I don't think anyone wants Garry to not recover from this illness.

Exactly, although my respect for the man has diminished, I don't wish ill upon anyone, the footy world is a better place with Garry contributing, there's no denying that.
He's the one that will have a permanent black cloud above his head in his own mind, he needs to be able to combat that and find himself again.

Do you mean Lyon back to host or Eddie?
I thought Eddie's contract with Fox does not allow him to do anything footy related at any other station
If Eddie is back I am out that's for sure.

Eddie would set his own terms I would think. He is a big enough name that if he said he was going back to do some stuff on 9 then fox would still hire him.

He doesnt have his own show on fox anymore so i dont see it as too much of a conflict.

Like McGuire would ever let a conflict of interest impede upon his work.

Nor Kochey, nor Brayshaw, nor Dunstall, nor Brereton. Heck, the coverage of the Brisbane v GC game yesterday was a Brisbane whingefest about the draw. Not that they were whingeing, of course.

Yeah, I reckon you're right about Eddie. But he's not the only one.

I think McGuire for far too long has got away with cracks at the AFL while being Media McGuire, stuff he wouldn't or shouldn't get away with when he's in his Pies hat.
