Am I right in saying that Ablett kicked 14, Salmon 10, and Essendon won by less than a kick? (I'm going from memory, I don't have Foxtel).

14 goals in a losing side, not bad at all. Must be the record for the highest individual score in a losing match?

Another example of the high scoring and fast play that makes our game unique and exciting, and a reminder of what is being snuffed out by the current batch of administrators and 'coaching' experts.

We won by 4 goals

Righto, thanks Jim. Didn't Salmon come off the ground early in the last after scoring his 10th?

Reckon he might have pinged a groin but stayed on the field to get to 10.

What was funny from that game was that both Salmon and Ablett despite having 40 touches between them recorded zero handballs. Salmon kicked 10.6 from 18 kicks and Ablett 14.7 from 22 I think

Gotta love the 90's, after Billy kicks the winning goal after the siren in the 94' Quali, Dipper interviews Johnny Barnes:

RD: "You'd be buying a few beers for Billy wouldn't ya?"
JB: "I'll get him that pissed tonight it's not funny"

They're all painful to listen to. Better off turning the sound down and doing your own commentary.

Ahh, yes, I see the ambiguity.

I meant commentators. I'm not sure how you could 'turn the sound down on a woman' without falling foul of the criminal law.

The Age's Rohan Connolly has written an interesting article on Fox's flashbacks, and how the game has become less appealing in the last decade or so.

I haven't got an issue with the game so much however the commentary, the continuing changing of rules and the consistency of umpiring is all absolutely shithouse.

Commentators have their own agenda and they all want to out do each other with commercial quotes or going over the top. Compare Bruce or Dennis to 20 years ago and then they were miles better. BT is an idiot aswell. Rex Hunt used to take the piss but at least he was good at it.

The umpiring and rule changing is a disgrace. Piss off the rules committee and bring back some common sense with the rules. If there is an issue with a rule bring all coaches together with the umpiring board and sort it out, but don't go changing rules every year.

In a state of incoherence this morning, I didn't immediately grab for the remote when the 2007 GF flicked over. Thankfully junior Valleys came to dads rescue and thought it was a good time to start pressing buttons on the Foxtel box. Thanks lad!

Moot discussion, but I have often wondered what may have transpired had Brett Ebert nailed both his shot on the run, and his set shot early in the 1st. The cats would have still comfortably won the game, but might have stopped the God mode switch they flicked once they got their tails up early, and might have saved us from the history books.

Grand Final 'what ifs' are the worst thing in Footy. As a Cat fan I've got plenty of them.

1989 - What if we played the ball and not the man in that first quarter? (1995 a bit too)
1992 - What if Ablett nailed that goal in the third quarter when the Eagles were surging
1994 - What if we lost to Carlton and North who were better than us LOL. It was a brilliant effort to finish 2nd that year but you don't get plaudits for being belted in the Grand Final
2008 - What if Otto and Mooney could kick those sitters

regards,

REB
