What do people think of it ?
Do they prefer it to the previous (McIntyre) system?
Good points, bad points?

Like it the way it is now. The old system wasnt easy to follow, created games where the result didn't matter, and you could finish 4th and get knocked out.
Interesting to see they have the McIntyre system in the NRL and people are calling for it to be scrapped from there.

I agree it's better now..
But I think the McIntyre system had merit.
I reckon the new system advantages the bottom four teams more than the old system - and vice versa for the top four.

It helped the crows win a flag in 98

Hard to say if it helped them. I mean, they won ... but under the new system they would have played 8th, not 4th (from memory).

You can't compare them and only use HALF the rules.

A final five or final 6 would be my choice. The current system rewards mediocrity, scrape together just over 50% wins and you're in the finals. The current system is fairer than the previous sytem in my opinion.

for commercial reasons the final 8 will never change, it makes too much coin for the AFL

That's not always the case Mick. Bulldogs won 13 matches this year to finish eighth which is a fair way ahead of 50%. The final five system practically gift wraps the flag for the minor premiers and tends to lead one sided grand finals as one team has got there a lot more easily than the other and the final six is a disaster end of story. No, eight is enough and in the current format. The best finals system of course is the top four but that is harsh with a 16 team comp.

Current finals system works well.
Why the NRL abandoned it is a mystery to me.
Top 8 in a 16 team comp is fair enough, too.

I concur with the current system at the moment, I would have a couple minor changes. Like the first week 1v3, 2v4, 5v7 and 6v8.

It takes 22 rounds to eliminate eight teams, then only three rounds to eliminate six.
Who thinks that's fair?!:D
Seriously though, I don't mind it the way it is now.

WWT Finals system. Top team wins flag and no grand finals LOL. So in your system if you finish third you have to play the top side but if you lose that round 22 game you can end up playing finishing 4th and play 2nd instead LOL. Nah. It's right as it is now.

Hell no!
That means you'd rather finish second or fourth (rather than first and third).

The system's fine as it is.
All finals systems have their virtues and vices. But I think the main thing to remember is that the NRL's current system- i.e. having 1st vs 8th, 2nd vs 7th and so forth is one which some think works better in sports like Rugby League (and soccer and Rugby Union, while we're at it) because upsets are far more likely to happen than in Aussie Rules. That's just the nature of the games.
