Channel 7 reporting Patrick Cripps has been playing with a fractured back and needing weekly injections to get through.

Surely that cant be true and if it is surely that cant be allowed even if he wants to play, we make blokes with concussion sit out 2 weeks surely you cant let a bloke play through a fractured back.

He’s definitely injured as his performances show but haven’t heard about a fractured back.
That would be complete negligence by the club if true.

If his form is aligned to his back then he's been playing with it for several weeks.

Yeah I'm wondering if they have misdiagnosed it originally so he kept playing and now they have worked out it is a fracture.

Either way not a great look for Carlton and a bloody massive risk for Cripps to have known or unknowingly taken.

Apparently Cripps hurt his back in the last practice match. David Teague played dumb when questioned about Cripps at press conference this morning. I don't think he is doing himself any favours with the Carlton faithful.

I played local footy, with two fractured vertebrae in my back. I also played games with 2 broken ribs. I'm not for a second saying it's a good thing but it can be done.

FMD.

We'd get beaten by Upperumbucta thirds at the moment. Our defensive structure is abhorrent.

Our defence might be individually trying but group defence is shockingly lacking. As part of the review I hope that our defensive set up is queried/reviewed and overhauled. I think overall our game plan is sound but the ability for opposition teams to mark uncontested in our F50 is second to one. They mark untouched (dare I say, bruise free?)

I think its your mids and fwds that are the problem in that case, the opposition waltz out of defence and through the midfield with no pressure, very hard for the defence to stop the hit up kick in that case. Not absolving your defence completely though, alot of attack 1st players rather than defence 1st

Doesn’t help when you pay blokes a fortune that refuse to defend

We had to pay overs to get him as no one is coming to Carlton for market value but we still paid way too much for a good footballer at best.

Martin, Williams, Saad, McGovern
There is a fair chunk of your salary cap gone right there.
Saad is the only one that is remotely worth what his output is

Na Daisy, whilst that's part of the problem its not the entire problem. Luke Parks in the first quarter, charges at a ball and misses it completely. It goes over the back and GWS kick it to his opposing player standing by himself 10m out from goal. If you make a contest, kill the ball. Simple. Then also in the first, we have Weitering, Jones and Pittonet all fly for a ball and the ball drops out the back to Himmelberg who kicks a goal I could've from my lounge-chair. Parks again in the first, 'almost' rushes the ball to the boundary. He gets pushed off the ball easily and Green centres the ball to a bloke standing by himself inside our back 25. Whilst Parks tries hard, no one is coaching him on what he needs to do. Did he attack the footy in the first instance - yes, did he make the contest - yes. Did he affect the contest. No. That's three.... I really don't need to keep going but it's rinse/repeat every week.

I've said this for a number of years, we have no idea about how destructive letting the ball over the back is. We leak easy goals repeatedly because of stupidity. I also have said that if you're a back pocket/flanker, you have to get to a contest and kill it. Letting blokes go one on one is 1970s stuff and stuff we'll lose consistently.

I'm lost as to where we are now. GWS are a good ordinary side and clearly we were nowhere near them which is hugely concerning. The bit that concerns me is that because we're making the same mistakes week in week out you assume from the sidelines that the backline coach isn't picking this stuff up during their assessment of the game.
