The death penalty can never be excused as it allows a state a means by which it can pick and choose who is fit to live and who isnt

Define successful? Two premierships in the club's existence, Brisbane won more than that in a 3 year period. I think the club kind of lost it's way in the Neil Craig years, near enough was good enough. Not even one GF appearance to show for the dominance of 2005-2006.
yeah but they are one of only three clubs that have won more flags than the crows in that time

You won't find too many crows supporters that think that wasn't a free kick. It was pretty shattering though

Same could be said for Port though Gozu, 1 flag to show for 2001-04. Essendon are the same- utterly dominated the competition between 99-01 and 1 Flag, North Melbourne made 7 consecutive preliminary finals between 93-99 for 3 GF appearances.

It takes luck to just make the GF, then you need to win the bastard....

The difference being all of those clubs won premierships in that period the Crows didn't even make a GF.

Refer to the last line though mate- you need luck to make the big dance, and then more luck to win it. The crows only have themselves to blame in 2005- should have waltzed past the saints in the QF and then a home prelim would have sent you there. 2006 was interesting, did the right thing in the QF, but not sure what the hell Cousins took at HT but it sure as hell made an influence in that game!
